It would actually be a very Angels thing to make all these moves and then still be over by like $150K.

I thought about this too. It’s going to be tough luring top free agents here unless things drastically change from the top, down. Sad

Yeah, and I've even argue that some folks here think Urshela was better than he actually was before he got hurt.  His offensive value came from a high batting average that was inflated by a very high BABIP.  His exit velocity was the worst it's been in any season in which he's played more than 50 games, his BB rate was the worst, his isolated power was the 2nd worst, hard hit % was the 2nd worst, etc., etc.

This is bullshit… he had tommy John and sat for a whole 12 months +, we had a 6 man rotation for him, all sorts of innings and pitch count limits especially when Eppler was around, this is really the first year he’s been in charge of his work load. I know we are all frustrated but don’t make BS up.

Sucks for Ohtani though.  Right before signing likely the biggest FA contract of all time he likely needs yet another TJ surgery and probably won't pitch again until he's 31.
I really wonder what kind of deal he'll get now.

Honestly, I want no part of an expensive DH who may or may not be able to return to being an effective pitcher at some undetermined point in the future.

Totally unrelated, but my 4 year old saw a YT short of the pay it forward drive thru skit and now whenever we go through one he starts shouting "55 burgers 55 pancakes 55 taters!"

People are so quick to pull the, the team gave up mantra, when they lose but don't understand that is the same team that guts out a hard fought win.
Nobody on the team wants to miss the playoffs. Nobody on the team wants to bat .180 when traded and sour their free agency suitors. Nobody on the team wants to go back to the minors or get cut.
Nobody on the team has given up, they are just collectively not competitive.

This is actually the biggest failure of a season in the Moreno era.  (not saying it's all his fault btw).  Highest payroll in franchise history by a large margin.  Gut the farm for a bunch of mediocre players who have added nothing.  Pretty much every resource they could reasonably consider was thrown at this season.
And we're thinking whether having a 'winning' season would be a positive?
11 games ago they were 5 games over .500 and now they're two below.  When they were tasked with having to play their best in order to have a legitimate shot, they've played their worst.
Don't get me wrong.  I'm still hoping for a miracle like the rest of us.  But 82 wins isn't the guy getting the girl at the end of this shitty movie.

I'm just gonna repeat what i've said on here multiple times.

If you expect to become a successful franchise, while also thinking that firing and re-hiring a new GM every 3 years is going to result in a sustainable model...
Well, you're in for more of the same.

Because in 999 cases out of 1000, your pitcher will be covering first on a play like that.

We've had Ohtani for six years and never made the playoffs.  Even if he came back, what would be different?
There's no easy fix here.  Our talent just isn't on the same level of higher end teams, and our best player is 32 and injury prone.  It just is what it is.  We all know a rebuild is needed, but with the team infrastructure full of Arte's cronies and our history (or lack therof) of draft success, I doubt that we could do so successfully.
We need new ownership, plain and simple.

An overhaul of our pitching coaches/trainers is probably in order.  Not that I'm going to fully blame Matt Wise and co. for everyone on the staff completely regressing this year, but we need a new voice to help these guys out.
Kind of funny that we finally get a mostly healthy pitching staff all year, but they end up completely shitting the bed anyways while our lineup is decimated by injuries.

    1. Rebuild the farm.
    2. Acquire short term rentals they can flip at the trade deadline.
    3. Trade away assets with value to build prospect capital.
    4. Tank, get a better draft picks.
    5. Spend money on upside international prospects.

    1. New ownership. Unless that changes, this losing culture that has been with this team for 9 years will continue.
