It is not a good look for the existing coaching staff that they ARE needed.

Or Rendon could just say "I'm out for the season with my injury" and not have to deal with the question anymore.
His general assholery seems to be more of the problem.

Reveille1984 reacted to Duren, Duren in OC Register: Angels drop 3rd in a row to A’s as pitching, defense falter
As Casey Stengel pleaded to his expansion Mets, "can't anyone here play this game?"
The degree of ineptitude reflects an expansion team. The fielding is especially atrocious. There is almost zero speed on the team other than Ohtani. And the base running is often an adventure.
Pitching and hitting are self evidently mediocre. And forget about anyone rising to the occasion in clutch situations. Or leadership.
Isolated individuals from different organizations who can't get in sync and have no chemistry. With many of the players in decline or totally raw and inexperienced. As well as the predictable  usual major injuries to key players.
Led by a manager and coaches who seems to react with a time delayed mindset.
Just trying to fast forward the season and get out of Dodge as fast as possible.

Reveille1984 reacted to Angelsjunky in OC Register: Mike Trout expects to ‘have conversations’ with Angels management about the organization’s future
First of all, Trout and Ohtani aren't the same, so let's separate them.
Secondly, the Braves are about to reach the postseason for the sixth year in a row, won the World Series in 2021, won 101 games last year and have the best record in baseball this year. What they're doing is working.
Thirdly, they already have the player who is arguably the current best in the game in Acuna, locked up through his age 30 season for $17M a year. They have most of their young core locked up for the next five years, with a relatively flexible payroll.
So the question is, why would you want to bring in a 32-year old former superstar who can't stay healthy and is owed almost $40M for each of the next seven years?
Ohtani might be worth the risk for them, but the question of "why" is still valid when you consider their success.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I realized like 5 years ago this team would never win anything as long as Arte owns the team.  He's not going to approve a full rebuild.  I 100% expect them to spend more money again this offseason, and again not go over the luxury tax, to try to win with the young group we have + free agents + whatever you get from Trout/Rendon

It would actually be a very Angels thing to make all these moves and then still be over by like $150K.

I thought about this too. It’s going to be tough luring top free agents here unless things drastically change from the top, down. Sad

Yeah, and I've even argue that some folks here think Urshela was better than he actually was before he got hurt.  His offensive value came from a high batting average that was inflated by a very high BABIP.  His exit velocity was the worst it's been in any season in which he's played more than 50 games, his BB rate was the worst, his isolated power was the 2nd worst, hard hit % was the 2nd worst, etc., etc.

This is bullshit… he had tommy John and sat for a whole 12 months +, we had a 6 man rotation for him, all sorts of innings and pitch count limits especially when Eppler was around, this is really the first year he’s been in charge of his work load. I know we are all frustrated but don’t make BS up.

Sucks for Ohtani though.  Right before signing likely the biggest FA contract of all time he likely needs yet another TJ surgery and probably won't pitch again until he's 31.
I really wonder what kind of deal he'll get now.

Honestly, I want no part of an expensive DH who may or may not be able to return to being an effective pitcher at some undetermined point in the future.

Totally unrelated, but my 4 year old saw a YT short of the pay it forward drive thru skit and now whenever we go through one he starts shouting "55 burgers 55 pancakes 55 taters!"

People are so quick to pull the, the team gave up mantra, when they lose but don't understand that is the same team that guts out a hard fought win.
Nobody on the team wants to miss the playoffs. Nobody on the team wants to bat .180 when traded and sour their free agency suitors. Nobody on the team wants to go back to the minors or get cut.
Nobody on the team has given up, they are just collectively not competitive.

Reveille1984 reacted to Docwaukee in Why a winning record matters (this year)
This is actually the biggest failure of a season in the Moreno era.  (not saying it's all his fault btw).  Highest payroll in franchise history by a large margin.  Gut the farm for a bunch of mediocre players who have added nothing.  Pretty much every resource they could reasonably consider was thrown at this season.
And we're thinking whether having a 'winning' season would be a positive?
11 games ago they were 5 games over .500 and now they're two below.  When they were tasked with having to play their best in order to have a legitimate shot, they've played their worst.
Don't get me wrong.  I'm still hoping for a miracle like the rest of us.  But 82 wins isn't the guy getting the girl at the end of this shitty movie.
