So, Blum is playing up a situation in a way where readers will let their imaginations run amok. That's quality writing if his job wasn't to report on sports. That said, if the Athletic ever decides to do a gossip column they have their very own Perez Hilton already in house.
If Rendon is told to go rehab and he tells the team to go pound sand, I want to hear about that. If they tell him to lose weight and he starts ordering double orders of fondue Door Dashed to the clubhouse instead, I want to hear about that. What I don't give a rats ass about is whether or not he said hi to Sammy in the cafeteria during lunch or some other non issue, particularly when it seems to be being used to fuel an already poor perception of a player by fans due to his being injured. Call out his bad throws, or if it's real, a lack of effort but spare me this BS.
Tell you what actually would be informative and might shed light on how difficult Rendon is to cover instead of the daily "he was mean again" tweet. @Jeff Fletcher, having formerly worked in the Bay area, how difficult or well liked by his teammates is Rendon compared to say Bonds, or Jeff Kent. Did you get to see any of that?
It really should come as no surprise that a guy that made it clear one of his reasons for signing with the Angels at his introductory presser was that its like LA minus all the other BS, might actually not like the daily interaction with the press.

We're already an embarrassment around the league as long as Arte owns this team, nothing's going to change because of these deadline deals when we had basically a 10% chance at the wild card.
I know this is an Angels fan board and as a long time fan of this team of course I want them to do well. But there's just not a lot to be optimistic about on the horizon unfortunately, especially after this season is done. I know a lot of people on this board don't care about farm system rankings or prospects, but we've seen how this has worked out over the last decade. Sure, guys like Neto and O'Hoppe are nice but let's be honest with ourselves. These aren't going to be some kind of game changing, franchise altering players. Every SP we have has regressed this year and with Ohtani gone this rotation and lineup is going to look a lot more bleak.
This is also a super weak free agent year, so it's not like we can just patch everything up with throwing cash around.
