honestly I don't mind the lost of Quero and Bush! Quero lack of power this year  has been concerning. Bush, could be that break it or make it part of the deal. I also think there could also be a good shot at re-signing lucus 

I love how aggressive this was of Perry too. Among buyers, if there was a bidding war for Giolito, the price would've skyrocketed. 
And to clarify, I've heard from TWO sources well before this trade that the Angels were going to be in hard on Lucas Giolito. It's rare for one name to be mentioned, because we just don't focus our conversations like that. To hear him TWICE, was telling me something. 

I love this deal. First, The Angels have loved Giolito for YEARS now and were going to be pursuing him in free agency regardless. This just gives them a better shot at acquiring his services beyond this season. 
And Reynaldo Lopez has always fascinated me since his transition to relief. As a starter, I never gave him a second thought because he sat 92-93 and was pedestrian. Upon moving to relief I saw him jump up to 97 and even hit 99. Usually guess might add a tick or two, he added FIVE! So I'm interested to see what he's capable of. 
And as for the price, getting Giolito AND Lopez and not having to give up a top 100 prospect (Quero is a fringe top 100 on most publications) actually isn't bad. And Ky Bush, I love what he's shown, and think he'll be a major leaguer. But losing that 97 velo he had in college had been quite discouraging. But I like the price.

Go big or go home. I also like that Perry is striking fast before he and other teams get into a bidding war on the day of the deadline. 

I feel like there's a reasonable chance the Halos are able to extend Giolito. He was probably a target anyways being local. And he's only in his age-28 season, even if he's not nearly as good as he was a couple years back. 

Bush and Quero were good prospects but I've always sort of felt they were the type of prospects that were a little over-hyped, a product of us having such a bad farm for so long. Catching prospects are so volatile. Sucks it was for rental players, but cashing in Quero's value was not a horrible idea if it allowed them to hold onto safer prospects. 

THis is cost of trying to win now. Takes balls to do this but after 7 losing seasons it's time.

The prospect cost hurts but this is a different approach than we have seen for a very long time.

I agree and it wasn't nuanced on purpose.    Go ahead and add the nuance if you'd like, but this franchise has averaged 76 wins over the last 7 years while having two generational players.

The angels have a pretty atrocious minor league system after the promotions of Silseth, O’hoppe, Neto, Bachman, and Joyce. 
 
they don’t have a ton of minor league guys to deal from… Trading Quero seems like a bad move, Ky Bush is kind of meh, as are Paris, Jackson, Blakley, Guzman, etc al. 

you can’t trade Caden Dana as he seems like the only premier arm in the system right now. 

Mark Derosa did a side by side of Moniak’s swing the other day on MLB network and his stance is pretty different than when he was with the Phillies, he’s much more open. The swing is still pretty close to the same but whatever was changed in his stance has made a difference in the frequency of hard contact.

Or maybe Artie overruled Eppler but decided to trust Minasian’s judgement, who knows.  I’m glad Minasain appears to have gathered a good group but really need a couple more years for results to be clear.
