I mentioned in another thread that this was a strong option.  If he trades Simmons as well, out IF depth for the next two years is almost nothing.
You guys are on crack if you think we're going to get a useful, club controlled pitcher for a month of Tommy La Stella.
Barreto is 24 years old and has 5 years of control.  He was a top 50 prospect two years ago before losing eligibility.  He's got an .834 ops in the minors and has stolen up to 30 bags and hit up to 19 hrs.
He's got a career minor league obp of .352 and avg of .289.
This is the best we're gonna do and frankly, it's damn good.  It also allows the team to move on from Simmons and trade him.  Barreto has more value than Rengifo and might only need plate appearances to be David Fletcher with more power and speed.  He's a good defender at 2b and solid at SS.
Billy just added a decent asset.  Frankly, well above what I expected for La Stella.  And it's all about assets.   Probable MIF starter was just acquired.  People need to back away from the ledge and think about how baseball works.

Ok.  So you think 30 games after both Cleveland and LA wanted Rengifo now nobody wants him?

I like this move.  Maybe I'm in the minority.  La Stella is a free agent in 2021 so this is a rental for the A's.  We get a long term 24 year old prospect who has had very limited playing time and has a 55 prospect score per Fangraphs.  Sign me up.  Let's see what this kid can do.

La Stella gives 50% of his offense back on defense.  His glove is purely ornamental.   On a team with Ohtani and Pujols pretty much entrenched at DH, his bat can't help you without his glove hurting you.

I'll say it again, trading Bundy for pitching will backfire,  it's also time we reward pitchers that come here and actually succeed.

Edit: Bundy is the only starting pitcher for the Angels to come from another team and succeed since like Colon or some shit.

I actually like Plesac much more than Clevinger. He’s going to be an Ace type that you can build a staff around. That’s the guy they should exclusively target. Youthful pitching is what needs to happen.

    Plesac
    Bundy
    Detmers
    Canning
    Heaney
    Ohtani spot starts and bullpen

    if you can't hear it.
Brodie: "Baseball's trying to come up with this solution, saying 'you know what would be super powerful,' -- three of us here, can't leave this room -- they're saying 'you know it'd be really great if you just have em all take the field. Then they leave the field! And then they come back and play at 8:10.'"
    Man: "What?! Who said that?"
Brodie: "Rob. And Jeff's like, 'Scheduling is gonna be a nightmare, there's so much at stake.' And I said Jeff, that's not happening. These guys are not playing. They're not playing!"
Man: "They're not dealing with reality!"
Brodie: "But that's Rob's instinct! And Rob -- exactly what you and I were talking about -- at leadership level he doesn't get it! He just doesn't get it!"

Game 6 reacted to Blarg in Angels option Luis Rengifo and Patrick Sandoval to alternate training site; call up Jose Quijada and Jared Walsh
I look forward to Rengifo at SS and Fletcher at 2nd base. That is a lot of positional and monetary infield value for the Angels. Their only missing piece now is a productive 1st baseman. Pujols career is essentially over, LaStella probably will be a budget cut for more pitching flexibilty so unless Thaiss can step up they have a hole to fill. Which means only one instead of five holes they had a scant four years ago when the only real infielders were Pujols and Simmons and the only true outfielder was Trout.
I hate to say but if Ohtani can't pitch consistantly without arm trouble he needs to learn first base from Pujols. I can't think of many better defensive first baseman so using Pujols next season as a player/coach could provide some value out of his last season. In the long term, moving Ohtani to 1st, could solidify a very effective and potent offense from the infield.

I guess my thought is/was that our starting pitching is such a mess that anybody who can eat up some innings and isn't terribly expensive in money or prospects is a good add, at least for now and the foreseeable future....and I didn't/don't think Rengifo was a prohibitive cost to get that type of pitcher....Rengifo can certainly prove me wrong, thought he didn't do much with his chances this year....Stripling has better numbers than Heaney career wise and Canning is still too young and unproven to assume too much yet (and a big health question).  Ask me again in 2/3 years and we'll sort it out...Right now, I would still have made the trade....

I agree which is why I called Stripling a depth piece. I didn’t call him good depth because of the shit that would stir up with the trolls.

I’m down for giving players a free pass to some extent for this season, but when you show up 50 pounds heavier and even even worse than your previously established level of terrible, it’s hard to not be judgmental.

Cleveland is extremely focused on keeping payroll light. Even Upton at 25% with his subpar production is a risk they likely wouldn't take. Marsh is a great prospect, but still unproven, maybe a year or two from real contribution, and the Indians need OF help immediately. Goodwin gives them some of that, sure, but if you were in the Cleveland FO and the best, immediately-producing OF you received was Brian Goodwin after dealing Mike Clevinger, you probably are going to be hearing it from fans and ownership.

They could flip Clevinger for Clint Frazier right now and probably get Goodwin-level production with more upside, control, and savings.

On paper it makes some sense, but don't think it's enough.

In another thread, I posted a 3-way idea that came from a similar place of your thinking...
CLE gets: Mike Yastrzemski, Brandon Marsh, and one of Jose Suarez/Jaime Barria SF gets: Mike Clevinger or Zach Plesac, Griffin Canning, and Justin Upton LAA gets: Mike Clevinger or Zach Plesac, Johnny Cueto, and one or two players from either team: Naquin, Luplow, DeShields, Slater, Duggar, Zimmer, Mercado, maybe a SF catcher or someone like Conner Menez Cleveland gets immediate outfield help that's cheap, controlled, high-impact in Yaz, Marsh could contribute this year or in near future, and the Angels SP included helps replete some depth. This keeps their payroll light and flexible, and stretches out the impact of the players received to help them both now and in the future. They have several 4-A type OFs, one or two of them could be displaced and sent back to the Angels (or Giants even) to help cover some of the depth those teams dealt.
San Francisco, who's shown a willingness to absorb salary, essentially swaps out Cueto's contract for Upton's. Similar money, but Upton has an extra year. They get an immediate frontline arm to put atop their rotation which is full of question marks and rookies and a high-risk, high-reward prospect in Canning from the Angels. If Upton gives them league-average production, they'd be happy. Their window isn't now. In dealing Yaz they take a huge risk, but this is a classic sell-high for them. I doubt they ever imagined a minor league trade of a reliever for a 4-A outfielder would net them Mike Clevinger a year later. Like Cleveland, the Giants have a couple 4-A OF types, one of whom could go back to Anaheim to replete their immediate OF depth.
The Angels land a frontline-caliber arm in Plesac (my preference) with years of control still pre-arb. He essentially steps into Canning's spot in the rotation, with same amount of control, seemingly less injury risk, similar upside, and better immediate production. They swap out Upton's contract for Cueto's, who won't bring anything flashy to the table, but hopefully gives them lots of innings of a #4-type SP. They likely buy him out instead of picking up an option next season, giving them nearly $50m freed up with his and Pujols' contract expiring. The pitching depth takes a hit, but they bring back one or two Brian Goodwin 2.0 types, perhaps finding another OF who gives them cheap, league average production until Adell starts to click and Adams arrives. Perhaps Goodwin is dealt separately at some point for another SP.

I saw a reference to :"selling high" on Bundy. There is no such thing in this mini-season. The net effect of trading him (likely for lesser value) or keeping him the final 30 or so games is about a net change in wins of 3 either way and whatever prospect is brought back likely hasn't played or even been seen in a year.
Keep Bundy and maybe try to re-sign him.

No. Selling way low on Adell in that trade.
He hasn’t looked good but he’s still possessing immense value. I’m not sold on Plesac’s upside yet, Clevinger has way too many question marks, and both have off-field baggage now. It’d be a horrible use of two of our own players with trade value.
Also Cleveland needs impact OF help right now. And they’re doing alright with their rotation too. Doesn’t make sense for their immediate needs.

Adell is up because the Angels think it is better for him to get major league experience than take batting practice from Jose Soriano and Chris Rodriguez. If they were playing better he'd probably be in Long Beach.
