Like why does he constantly need to emphasize how it’s not that important to him? He keeps the talking point alive himself.  We get it dude, your family is literally more important.  Obviously.  No big deal.  Like everyone else not name Kobe Bryant.  Can you pretend for 5 - 10 minutes in front of a bunch of reporters that you’re interested in helping the Angels be a winner? You know, is 30 million+ a year of Artes money enough to play that game and stop being an asshole for a couple of minutes? It seems like no.  Which is a pretty big fucking problem for the Angels. 

He doesn't seem to have a long term plan for anything.  I think he's just a bored, rich old man that wouldn't know what to do with himself if he actually sold the team.  His response about the stadium seems to coincide with this, which was practically "I'll probably be dead in 2038, who cares?"
It's funny that he's so big on selling "entertainment", yet winning is likely the biggest part of a team being interesting and drawing new fans.  Entertainment for him is a splashy name, not an actual good baseball team.  This is the entire root of the franchise's problems. 
He's had two all-time, HOF level players fall into his lap and has zilch to show for it.  Garbage, penny pinching player development, continually a garbage tier farm system.  A lot of people are huffing the hype pipe on Schanuel, Neto, and O'Hoppe, but these are more complementary pieces, not guys you build a team around.
Sorry to be such a downer, but man this a dark time for Angels fans.

This isn't a huge change at all.  He's said things like this all along. Won't go over budget unless it's for "the right guy," etc.

At this point why not just have his own independent ST team to showcase his clients?
That's a marketing tool, until one of them break their pelvis running out a ground ball or tear a UCL throwing an 80mph fastball in the bullpen.

Though like someone else said in this thread, I'm most fond of my days following the Angels and baseball in general by listening to the games on the radio, watching on tv and being the first one to retrieve the newspaper in the driveway so I can check out the box score and read the recap. 

Here’s how I see it.
If the Halos were already perennial contenders with excellent PR, I could see concern with signing him.
In the Halos case though, he may not be under as much of a microscope from media/fans.
This might be his best MLB landing spot.  Grew up in SoCal plus the above.
We’re not talking long term deal here.  Maybe one season plus team option year?

Even before he broke himself in half last season, his underlying batting metrics weren't that great.  I think people see his .299 batting average and think he was solid.

Rendon is not going to appear in 140 games this upcoming season even with substantial time as the DH.

Yeah, throw away money on Bellinger because he could just play like he did last year but if he reverts to the previous 4 the Angels are screwed and add in Lorenzen that has proved that he can't complete a season, even in a 6 man rotation, so we can look forward to another August nose dive.
The two of them just may make the Angels eligible for the last wild card slot or tank the team for another 5 years with another dead contract.
I'll take tanking the payroll for $200 million, Alex.
