ScruffytheJanitor got a reaction from Angel Oracle in OC Register: Will Angels’ David Fletcher return to form now that he’s healthy?
I have almost no confidence that he will ever be this productive consistently, but if Fletcher and Rengifo can be productive it will make this offseason much easier. There are more outfield options for us to pursue, and it would allow us to really focus in at 1B (unless we move Rendon there).

However, since we are the Angels, I assume Fletcher will be a baseball god for the next six weeks and will then turn into Jack Mayfield Jr.  next season.

@ScruffytheJanitor made a good Ace Ventura in another thread, and it got me thinking.
I don't know if Ohtani does autograph signings at baseball card shops like other guys do. But if we did, maybe we could try having Perry put on fake pimples and look like a teenager, and ask Ohtani to sign what is actually a new contract, made to look like an issue of Halo magazine. Then present it as legally binding layer on.
    Just an idea.

That's why I think the priority should be adding a quality hitter at 1B and LF. Then you can add someone for cheap at 2B/SS to go with Rengifo and Fletcher.

The problem is, like last offseason, it’s a top heavy SS class.
There aren’t really any average to slightly above SS’s available to sign to like a 2-3 year deal at an AAV between 10-15 million.
If you want a SS, you’ll have to pay up for Turner, Correa, Bogaerts, or Swanson.

They won't cut Lorenzen. There seems to be a lot of mutual interest to bring him back. The thing is, he will not commit to anything besides starting...even though his arm clearly wasn't up to it this year. But the Angels seemed to have promised him something. He could be a valuable swing guy, but my guess is they bring him back at--what I hope at least--less than $7 from this year. Maybe 5.

I think what they want to avoid is what the White Sox have gone through with Andrew Vaughn. He lost 2020 as a development year and there's no reason he should've been in the majors in 2021. Even now I'm 2022, he's hitting for average but the slugging is lacking. Had her been allowed 2020 to develop in AA, and 2021 in AAA, there's a good chance he'd be more productive and able to tap into his power and make the adjustments quicker.
I say they let Neto and DiChiara develop in AA next year, so that in 2024, they'll be able to reach their potential without the steep learning curve of guys like Marsh and Adell.

Get them all together and competing in the playoffs. Create a winning culture and expectation amongst the next wave of Angels. Hopefully they can turn this organization around.

I think Seminaris is much more polished than those guys. Ceiling isn't as high, but he's closer to playing at his acceptable MLB-floor now (IMO) than those guys are and it wouldn't surprise me if we saw him hit the bigs this year even.

You'd have to think Davis Daniel, already on the 40-man, will get a shot sometime next two months too?

    Something to consider going forward in regards to the Closer position;
    1. Silseth, do you decide to convert him into your Closer? the inability to maintain his Velo and control lowers his upside. But that mid to 90s heater for a inning, plus the filthy slider and a slider could dominate in the Closer role.
    2. Murphy, is this is role to grab now? he's shown dominating numbers in the minor. But has zero MLB experience.
    3. Rodriguez, do you slowly bring in Rodriguez next year as the closer??

So is Bachman, in reality. They should have 4 next year. But they’ll find a way to kick O’Hoppe off, and Neto will be the only one.

For fucks sake that was Gosselin's ball to catch, it was 15 feet from the infield clay. Adell had to charge from left field for what should have been an infielders pop up to catch. Gosselin got a half ass move on it and gave up.

I'm starting to think that Adell is the type of player that doesn't breakout until he's 26 or 27. I could see a scenario where he's up and down for the next couple years, and eventually included as a throw in a trade, then gets a fresh start somewhere else and does well, but is never anything close to what we hoped he'd be.
I just don't see a good major leaguer there, at least not anytime soon. He's basically the same guy we saw in 2020, when he looked like an 18-year old from Rookie ball called up prematurely. It is sad and frustrating that he's shown no improvement since then.

ScruffytheJanitor reacted to Second Base in POLL: Perry Minasian Trade Deadline Grade
He'll need luck on his side. He's got some money to play with and will spend it, but we can't buy our way back into contention. He'll need some things to break right.
    1. Improvement at catcher. Stassi, Thaiss, O'Hoppe, doesn't matter. Someone needs to perform.
    2. First base is an offensively productive position and Walsh had been awful for a while now. A change is needed.
    3. Rendon needs to be healthy AND productive.
    4. Adell needs to reach his potential immediately.
    5. The Angels upside minor league pitching needs to impact the game, in the rotation or bullpen. Chris Rodriguez, Sam Bachman, Ky Bush
If all that happens, then whatever Minasian does to augment the team via free agency is fine.

ScruffytheJanitor reacted to Second Base in POLL: Perry Minasian Trade Deadline Grade
I'm happy with it. The team sucked before the deadline and they'll suck after, just cheaper and with more minor leaguers. But here's my overall take.
Marsh: They gave up on him too early. Flat out. They'll regret this when he's a stud in three years. Having said that, the more I watch and read up on O'Hoppe, he's the real deal. He's a field general, and a captain of pitchers. I comp him with Chris Iannetta. But dealing Marsh also opens up an everyday slot for Adell and his bat needs to develop into a difference maker and you can't do that in AAA.
Syndergaard: Everyone else was disappointed, but I was happy with the return. I was expecting relievers or middle infielders in AA. Nothing special. And they got nothing special. Mickey Moniak it's a fine 4th outfielder with upside and Jadiel Sanchez is a lottery ticket with his exit velocities from both sides of the plate. Mostly, they saved money. Great.
Iglesias: I didn't think anyone would take on that contract. He's making 16 million a year for four years. That's an awful price to pay for a closer that's not someone incredible, like Hader. Not only did the Braves take it on, but they added a personal favorite of mine in Tucker Davidson, who I think will be like Jose Suarez, decent in the rotation of necessary but very effective across multiple innings as a reliever. And they got Jesse Chavez too, which is just hilarious. He's a great reliever this year.
