Nice try.

That was kind of clutch.

Getting tired of Trout and Ohtani never coming through late in the game when we need them

TroutField reacted to Blarg in Just saw this article.... "Fact or fiction: Could Shohei Ohtani be traded to Pittsburgh Pirates?"
Every team except the bottom feeders will have some article about how they are the trade partner for Ohtani. Is this article fact? No, it's click bait.

TroutField reacted to Ace-Of-Diamonds in Gameday Thread (5/3/23): Angels @ Cardinals - Ohtani on the mound
Why not, it doesn't cost anything? Any Angel win or division rival lose, will only help in September. Especially this year when retaining Ohtani probably depends on whether or not we get to the playoffs. Why rain on my parade?

I lived in St Louis for awhile and I never remember anything resembling dry air

TroutField got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Gameday Thread: Angels @ Cardinals (5/2/23 4:45 Pacific): Sandoval on the mound, no Ohtani, Trout at DH
Neto leading off and Ward hitting 4-6 makes the lineup so much better and deeper, in my opinion.

TroutField reacted to BTH in Arte stepped in, told Perry to let Nevin do his job???
I don’t know how much truth there is to the report, but it is interesting that since the game on 4/24 where Estévez wasn’t used:
- Moore was then used in 3 out of 4 days, marking the second time it occurred for an Angels reliever all season.
- Estévez recorded his first appearance of more than 1 IP this season.
- The Angels SB attempts per game went up from 0.43 to 1.67
There are changes that have been made in the way they’ve operated since Arte reportedly told Perry to leave Nevin alone on managerial decisions. Seems like too big of a coincidence, but I guess we’ll see in the coming days/weeks. If relievers are used more frequently and they continue to run more, maybe the report is true.

He actually only coached for about 20 seasons.

TroutField reacted to Stradling in OC Register: Angels still searching for right bullpen mix
Never sign another free agent to a long term deal because of Albert. Makes sense.

TroutField reacted to Taylor in Taylor Ward's struggles
If he knows the problem, why doesn't he fix it?

This season feels really weird. You just want to believe it’s going to go differently to past years. The level of talent is definitely higher than previous years, but at the same time the same old problems are repeating themselves. Defensively we are nowhere near as good as we should be. Any time we face a good team, ala Yankees, Brewers etc we are beaten largely because they are doing things to a much higher level than we are in the field. The bullpen continues to blow games but it’s not strictly on them. Situational hitting is abysmal, starting pitching just not going deep enough. Nevin’s management certainly questionable too at this stage. I keep expecting them to turn things around and go on a run but I think it’s just hopeless optimism and in reality it’s going to be another season where they can never win a sustained amount of games in a row.

TroutField reacted to Angelsjunky in Games that could have gone either way.
Good stuff, Doc. While I tend to veer towards statistical answers, what I see is a team lacking in heroics. This general impression is actually somewhat backed by statistics: They're 0-3 in extra innings games, 0-6 in games that they enter the 7th inning from behind, and 8-11 in games that they're within 2 runs (either way) at the start of the 7th inning. Meaning, we're getting very few come from behind wins, and tending to lose close games.
Overall they've played like a slightly above average team that is below average in terms of close/clutch situations, and therefore ends up being...average.
Now this is the sort of thing that can change. It points to either small sample size and/or bad luck, and/or more "old school" factors like grit and clutch performance.

I suggested it and got shit on by multiple posters about being a dumbass for even thinking about something like that.

Who was the moron that went on and on that Neto wasn't a good choice for leadoff?

Unsuccessful series, but I'll take the "W".

A "good team playing bad" for 30 games is not a good team.

Wrong, they scored one. That’s why they lost. One single run.
