Two weeks ago I was in Oxnard, and now I'm in Galena.
Its been fun.

Usually my reaction to "look at our charming little town!" goes something like 'STFU, this place sucks and you know it', but I'm pretty blown away.

The Metrolink trains chug along at a pretty quick clip, around 70mph.
That's a metric shit ton of mass and inertia to stop.
 
The big heavy freight trains (2-3 miles in length, 55mph or so) can take upwards of 2 miles to come to a stop, and that's if the track was completely straight.  Add curvature to the track and the braking time increases.
 
The Metrolinks are much shorter and lighter, but I would think it would take at least a mile for them to stop.
 
Any time you foul the tracks (ie: park a vehicle or equipment within 25 feet of the rail [freight rail standard distance, Metrolink may be different]) you need clearance and to have a flagman present at all times to act as a lookout.

The latest news report says it was a produce truck that was parked on the tracks and that the dude got out and ran away.

Americana is arguably their worst record from the 90's.
 
Smash and Ixnay beat it by miles.  If they did Smash, and with Rancid doing Wolves, plus all of the great ska bands on the bill, I would seriously consider jumping on a plane.
 
Side note, being stuck in traffic this morning allowed me to listen to Wolves front to back.  It's a goddamn masterpiece.

Burger Records is a creepy place.  The folks working there, and their friends, are always blitzed.
Last time I was in, there was a dude frying on acid trying to climb up on the displays to pick records off the walls.

I like the direction this thread has headed, mostly because I like to bitch about my generation.
I was born in 1987.  My parents are on the older side, both born in the 1940's.
 
Both my parents worked, starting from their teens up until retiring around age 60-ish.
My dad, having owned his owned business, still isn't quite retired, but he has switched things over to online-only, and can step away at any time.
They travel.  They gamble.  They do whatever they want, whenever they want because that's what you are entitled to after decades of hard work.
 
I'm an only child.  My parents have money, property, cars, whatever.
I've been working, be it for my dad, odd jobs, college jobs, or now a real career, since I was in my early teens.
High school would end, other kids would go play video games, smoke pot, dick around, and I would be on the bus to go to work.
Saved up enough money for a truck.  Started driving to work.
I haven't asked my parents for a dime since college ended.  They paid for my education.  I have no real debt other than a condo-sized mortgage.  Paid my car off years ago.
 
The under-30 people I work with.... you should see them.  Entitled.  Brainless.  Disgusting.  All of them with college degrees in science and engineering, but most don't know the meaning of work.
They don't want to drive to LA because it's too far.  They arrive in the office at 9:00 and leave at 4:30 or 5:00.  They sit on their ass in the field and don't ask questions; they watch the contractors work.
 
I feel sad for my generation.  We have little in common.
