Guys like Brian Goodwin, Felix Pena, Dylan Bundy, Tommy La Stella, Noe Ramirez, Handel Robles (2019 version at least) or undervalued prospects like Patrick Sandoval, Ty Buttrey, and Luis Rengifo?
I don’t disagree with the scouting/analytics investment but just because we want them to the hire the best and be the best means they can just make it line item one in the offseason. Some teams will always be better at it. Most teams are looking at the same data these days anyways - it’s not easy finding the analytical competitive advantage like money or Sabremetrics first provided.
The Angels aren’t terrible at this. They have hits and they have misses. Injuries and lack of a farm and depth took away all safety net they needed to alleviate those swings and misses on buy-lows.

I haven't read this thread, but imagine wanting to trade Trout based on this weird COVID season.

Honestly my fandom has been slowly dissipating over the last few years. Call me a fairweather fan, I don't care. This organization just isn't fun to follow anymore.
Hopefully they'll start showing some promise soon because it seems we're just circling the drain.

It sucks that these two had really solid minor league numbers but both have failed to deliver even some quality starts as backend guys over the past two years.

I just stated in another thread that it's time to trade him. This organization is going nowhere. Let's get some trade value from a team who actually has a chance to win the World Series in the next 5 years. If Trout stays on the Angels he will never win a world series period.

remember when someone posted about jon miller or whoever in the giants previous series saying things were going to get better because they were playing the angels? how that was going to be bulletin board material?
i guess the angels invested all their bulletin board money in pitching.

That was me. I wonder if any of the players even knew about it. But yeah, it probably wouldn't have mattered.

Yes they were wasted. It’s not saying they weren’t great because they were. But they didn’t put a championship team around them and that’s being wasted. You can say the same thing for numerous other great players. Winning is what matters. If you don’t put a great team around your best guy you’re wasting his career. Think LeBron and his first time in Cleveland.

i don't know if i believe either yes or no, but i definitely can understand this post. i wouldn't be shocked if he's out, but i'd be terrified of who arte brings in. carpino isn't going anywhere imo.
until arte gets real on letting someone from the friedman tree start building a baseball systems tree, i just don't see it happening here in any sustained way. i hate to be defeatist, but it just seems like too many things have gone wrong for too long.
it's shocking that a team spending this much money can be this bad.

i appreciate the compliment and the faith in my intellect. i can understand your position, but it's not about fixed odds or games of chance. the gambler's fallacy is not strictly about that. i was merely illustrating a very small point that it seemed that fans were thinking with their hearts, which is not thinking at all, that's feeling.
the angels are bad at baseball. this is unlikely to change in any statistically meaningful way over the rest of this abbreviated season. we can hope for an oakland A's run of victories, but that's just feeling again. i'd like to see it. i certainly wouldn't bet on it.
don't ever call baseball the ultimate reality show again. just. don't.

This team needs talent in the worst way, so I don't fault them for adding Rendon. Remember, their 3B situation was garbage last year and has been ever since Figgins left. When the opportunity presents itself to get good players, go get them. They still need more of them, and specifically on the pitching side.

Hello everyone this is my first post on this page (although I read a lot of posts on here)  but I'm going to introduce myself to this group by saying I hope and pray Eppler does not come back next year. I think 5 years of this team finishing well below .500 should indicate this direction isn't working. The team appears to be going nowhere- and actually looks like they;re going backward to be honest. Honestly I don't think this organization can take 2 more years of Billy Eppler at the helm with the disasters we've had on the field the last 2 years. He's failed and needs to be replaced. That is the one thing I hope comes out of this disastrous season. There really is nowhere to go but up at this point. At least I hope lol.

The worst thing is we're getting kicked around by a really bad team.
Trout will get his home runs, Fletch will get his hits, and Rendon will do well, but that's about it for 2020.

this team didn't win the 2002 world series.
    that's a weird comment.
an entirely different cast of players playing great baseball won that series and deservedly so too.
