ukyah got a reaction from Inside Pitch in While it is fun to sweep the Asterisks
this is as good a place and time as any other to chime in on this. i feel like those should have some definition on what they mean.
for me:
heart is your standard like this post. posts that contribute to discussion, regardless if you agree or not.
cat is for posts that are seemingly disconnected or oddly irrelevant.
picard/face palm is for genuinely stupid posts.
trophy is like the perfect summation post. the one you absolutely agree with. "thanks" is so out of place with this one.
the rest are self evident.
now you know my 2 cents on something that isn't worth a penny.

Is this like "it's better to date the ugly chick because the hot one will ultimately break your heart" ?

This is especially where I miss the other vote emoticons.

if the astros finish under .500 in their first season without the benefit of cheating, then it's just another gasoline filled trash can on the fire.

it's crazy to me how a story about a doubleheader sweep can have so many negative performance stats about the winning team.

Kinda sad that Pujols has hit 659 home runs and when he hits his next one everyone will be surprised.

No kidding. If I want that, I'll read the GDT.

if they offer the QO, then he will take it. why make 8 million over 3 when you can make 18 in one? he'd only have to average 3 million over the next 2 seasons to match it, which he's guaranteed to surpass easily.

Yeah like I said a few weeks ago, I thought it would be the offense that would get us wins but it's the starting pitching surprisingly. The wins we are now getting feel like a sick joke if you will. They will probably go on a tear and come within 2 wins of the postseason only to Buttercup us.

If only, but I don't think Arte will do that, unfortunately.

If we had a pretty strong farm but were a few MLB pieces away, Dombrowski wouldn't be a bad hire, because he's shown he will aggressively pursue a title for a team that's close. My concern, though, is our farm is rather weak and we already have a number of large contracts on our club.
I think we need a GM / prez of baseball operations that can find value in undervalued players and help find good players on the cheap, since there won't be a lot of money to spend moving forward. That's why, IMO, we are better suited to have a Rays-type GM leading this team right now.
Well, that and it's neat to see these franchises who can build winners today while maintaining a very strong farm system/pipeline.

I am not even going to go back and figure out who brought up this point, but its a fair point that the “minimum wage” is something that varies by state, so it’s hard to use that as a real barometer.
I guess then I would just like to see minor league players negotiate their own minimum salary (as major leaguers do) and have it be more in line with supply-and-demand for the service they provide.
Or at least give them a little more freedom, like limiting the number who are under control every year. Say you can protect your top 40 or 50 minor leaguers, but all the rest of them are free each year to seek employment with any organization they want. Then there would be a little more of a free market affect.

i love how emotional this thread about minor leaguers has gotten. i know, ultimately, it's a discussion about a larger issue in america, but daaaamn some of you mf'ers get downright menstrual about baseball. if ever there was a clear sign how desperate angel fans are for a "tension release", this thread is it. definitely the stripling/pederson thread too. that one was like being inside the mind of a stalker.

All rounds get bonuses. In the first 10 rounds it's 100k or more, after that it drops off pretty quick. Most guys taken after the 15th round or so get like 5k or 10k. There are 40 rounds.
Obviously, there are some minor leaguers who get big bonuses, and there are some minor leaguers who have advanced to AAA or got on a 40-man roster who are doing fine.
It's not the end of the world.
I just don't feel that it's fair that someone who is working at McDonalds and may have no skills whatsoever should be paid more per hour than someone who is one of the top 5,000 people in the world at what they do, just because his industry has found a loophole around the laws that apply to McDonald's.
I also don't think whether the person loves what he does should matter to how much money his labor is worth.
And that's all I have to say about it.

btw, i should have said that i think unpaid internships are bogus as well. everybody should be paid at least minimum wage for their labor, even if it's not market value. also, i think minimum wage is bullshit. i think it should be living wage. i'm sick and tired of the american workforce being treated as an infinite resource with no value. so, i'll assume that we're coming from completely opposite perspectives and leave it at that.
