floplag got a reaction from Angel Oracle in What do you make of the lack of trades recently?
I expected one around the end of Spring Training personally as we have too many redundant parts at certain spots, but i guess teams are still figuring out what they have in some ways due to the shortened spring.
Honestly, right now, who would you even trade for?  What do we actually think are our needs.
They had 100 chances to go after a proper MiF and punted so they wont do that now.  I can see them giving up on the kids in the OF.
Everyone always wants more SP, but im not sure i see anyone giving up anything right now its just too early to tell.  Buys like Marquez or Castillo they say they arent trading, Means just got hurt... who would be a viable target thats still an actual trade candidate?
Id still like to add another bullpen piece personally, Rosenthal in FA might be interesting if nothing else.

We should have been in on Suzuki, we dropped the ball there, guy was literally hoping for us to call based on his comments.
The die is cast at this point i think any FA is moot, we arent spending anymore, and how far this team goes will depend on how long it takes the kids to take the next steps.

We can make all the excuses in the world. but the bottom line is that is the team we have to beat to be taken seriously... all the pre-season hype just got a kick in the nethers.
Were we competitive, yeah, save for a few innings in game two, but in the end the scoreboard is all that matters
They beat us, soundly, +10 run diff for them, - 10 for us.  It took us being perfect in that game three to win it.
Its early, but we simply must do better to be taken seriously.

Good read thanks, although i vehemently disagree with the bullpen take.  This is what this club has needed more than anything else, including SP, for years now.
Youre never going to remake and entire rotation and FA SP are notoriously poor investments... we have good starters, none will win any Cy Youngs probably but they arent the worst in the league by any means.
You can win a title with 2 of these three, SP, RP, and lineup.  WE never really had a chance at the SP one, and instead of building a quality pen we went clean peanut.. it was the worst  strategy ive seen in my life for any team.   WE should have done this years ago.  We spent a lot, thats true, but we got multiple quality guys, for the cost of one stud SP, i can live with that

Ill summarize my view as this, im optimistic, as always, but... my biggest concern is health.  If this club stays healthy, it will be a contender, no question.
My one bitch is that for all the great moves we made it feels like we again didnt truly finish the job.

Yep, that changed it all for me.  I was literally thinking "what they couldnt at least get a decent RP ro him... turns out that exactly what they potentially did.
I wish they would announce both sides of these deals together 🙂

    This is so frustrating.
The guy had a solid spring, we couldn't find a single trade even if we ate 90% of the money so instead we eat 100%, again.
Who are they forcing onto the roster that this was necessary?  A lot of us wanted Stefanic to get a shot but only if hes starting it makes no sense for him to sit the bench so if they did this to keep him as a utility guy... it makes even less sense.
Times like this i really wish i knew what the plan was... were playin a lot of guys out of position to somehow force Fletcher into SS and now this, a very confusing week.

I must admit i find that number a little perplexing...
This team won 77 without Trout or Rendon, the pitching upgrades, or the bullpen overhaul.
How are we only winning another 6-7 games?

    No, i was not.
He said that the CBT should go up, i asked what benefit that had.
It is my view that what needs to go up is the floor.  There is a lot more money for the players in the 100-200M range on 28 teams than any  bump from 220-230 on 4.

Honestly, so do i, although i suspect for very different reasons than Arte.
It benefits nobody but the teams with endless resources and does nothing to encourage any sort of competitive integrity.
Now you want to talk about the floor instead of the ceiling, im all about that.
3 teams spent over 200M, 11 were under 100... which is the greater problem?
How does giving the Yanks, Dodgers, and Mets even more buying power help anything?
Id include us on that list but its clear Moreno will never go over it so that dream is dead.

Kiner-Falefa i found interesting in that he can even catch if needed.  He caught like 60 games in the last few years.  That kind of flexibility seems to be our thing so... Not sure he would be that much better than what we have already as a pure SS so wouldnt overpay, but, interesting.

I have yet to hear anything that suggests anyone in the front office should have or did know anything.
They went to great lengths to hide what they were doing, putting it in shoes and such...
Assuming they knew doenst represent facts in evidence, at least not what ive read if anyone has read otherwise, please correct this.

Its an interesting idea, ive thought about non pitching options myself but i think if we were to entertain such ideas it should be for a position we lack, such as a controllable young stud C.
Its not likely of course you pry Rutchman out of Balitmore but i think i would prefer a spot we have a real need at long term if you go non pitcher.
If you need a short terms solution in the OF on the interim see how Ohtani feels about Suzuki.
This org shouldnt be thinking about rebuild options, if it is then were already screwed.

I cant even count how many ways the BBWAA failed us on this.

First, Papi is NOT a first ballot hall of famer.  Should he get in, ok, yeah, but first freaking ballot... lol.

Second, they basically just told an entire generation of baseball fans that everything they loved, was invalid.  That all the best of their era, do not belong in the hall.  Why?  Steroids, bullshit.. I do not accept this excuse... steroids have been in sports for decades before they were ever banned in baseball, i knew kids using them in high school in the 80s for petes sake.  There is virtually zero change there are not already guys in the hall who used them and thats before we get to Papi himself testing positive.

Third, Baseball, and especially the MLB media and BBWAA were in my opinion fully complicit on the steroid era, they know, they said nothing, they didnt care, they used it for ratings and to increase popularity... until it gave them a black eye.  Who can forget "chicks dig the long ball".

The reality is that they were not liked... boo freaking hoo.  There are first class jerks in the hall, who cares, it isnt about the people, its about the game.  Ty Cobbs ability on the baseball field was surpassed on by the level of what a horrible person he was, and hes regarded as the best to ever play?  so much for character.  Schilling is a controversial person, does that change what he did on the field?

I could have said ok for making them wait a little, fine, but to bypass them completely and put in a guy with the exact same issues on his resume with the only real difference being he was well liked on the first ballot undeserved?  Thats an epic failure of the baseball media and the baseball hall.
What they should have done was put those guys in, an then put Papi in next year.

The hall is now a popularity club, it does not represent the best of baseball anymore.  How can a hall of this sport take itself seriously when it doesnt have the man with the most hits and home runs enshrined?   I always wanted to visit it, now i really dont care anymore.
