Are we a bit butt-hurt here?  If it was a matter of willpower Albert would be the MVP.  I hope he surprises all of us.

Hey I live in Georgia- peanuts in the shell heavily salted and in a bag that says Angels would make it to my BBQ and so would the shakes if you add some protein powder and stevia. (Sounds like Tank had that under control).  And don't mess with Carter while Trump is president.
    so there

The coolest thing is that if I had to pick any professional sports male to represent the Angels it would be Trout.  Whatever happens, stay or go, Mike is up there with Salmon and Eckstein as a truly good guy.  If that's the quality of player the franchise is about I think we won big time.

I remember Mr. Enberg as the pre-game voice for the Angels.  Recall his voice with my transistor radio under my blanket.  The Angels have broken my heart many times but when he wanted to come back and retire as an Angels baseball announcer and a few million dollars stood in the way (when he went to the Padres) was a true killer.  As others have said, DE was a true class act and Oh My will echo in my baseball soul forever.

A lot can happen in 2 years. Maybe our outfield prospects develop and we can trade for a stud 2B. Maybe there is a stud FA. But there will probably be a guy or two who can put up 1-2 WAR in FA then too.

FYI, I am a fan of Moustakas, but would be equally pleased with Zack Cozart at 3rd and Neil Walker at 2nd, or Todd Frazier at 3rd and either of those guys at 2B.. The Angels just need help and I don't want them to give up current assets in a trade. Cozart was not given a QO, nor was Walker or Frazier.
Getting a fix at 2b and 3B slightly outweighs the need for a 1B, but not by much. I hope the Angels address all three positions, and I've come around on Carlos Santana. I like Hosmer as well, but mainly because of his youth. I'd be fine with three to four years of Cozart, Walker, and Santana for around $40 M total per year.
Cron can be moved for a pen arm. Valbuena then can fill in at all three infield positions.
If they skipped Moose, and put their cash on those other three, you'd be essentially looking at a lineup most days that looked like:
    Calhoun RF
    Walker 2B
    Trout CF
    Upton LF
    Pujols DH
    Santana 1B
    Cozart 2B
    Maldonado C
    Simmons SS

Versus getting a player like Moustakas might break up the Trout-Upton-Pujols Log jam. I doubt they hit Pujols 6th, though, so its more likely Calhoun is dropped and then you need a more leadoff friendly addition at 2B.

I think Richards will replace Scribner rather than Nolasco.  After all Nolasco is a gritty veteran that takes the ball every five days and gives the Angels a 50/50 chance of staying in the game.

I don't know why Scioscia doesn't rest him two games per week?  I think Albert is playing in pain (duh) and in order to maximize his value he needs more rest.  With Escobar coming back it would be a great time to start this strategy.
Can you imagine Sciosca telling Albert- "You're going on the 10 day disabled list, then when you come back you'll be playing 4 or 5 games per week.  But Albert, you'll still be hitting 3rd."

    Tim Salmon did pretty good.
By the way, did Dipoto cost us Vlad Jr?  I think I'm going to regret that almost as much as missing out on Beltre.

Another thing about Stanton's contract is that it's only $25 million per year toward the luxury cap.  In terms of the player quality and star factor, that's a bargain.  If Arte doesn't mind paying for the right player (and Stanton isn't the right player, who is) the contract doesn't prevent resigning Trout.  I could definitely see Arte doing this for the splash factor and as insurance if Trout leaves.

That's the nature of the game. I remember the days when Wood was going to hit 30 HR's at SS and Trevor Reckling was going to be a solid #2 starter.

Revad got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Is this the most exciting ~.500 team?
I'm thinking Eppler should have an easy choice to sell or not by the deadline.  After the Twins, the Angels play the Rangers In Texas ,which could be tough.  The next homestand begins with the Rays who are currently 2 games over .500, then the first place Nationals and the first place Red Sox.  Then a road trip starting with the first place Indians before the Blue Jays.  Then the non-waiver deadline.  If the Angels are close to a wild card slot at the deadline, they will have been playing good ball mostly against good teams (only the Rangers and Blue Jays are under .500), and selling too many pieces for prospects would not make sense.  Shifting resources to buy a long term asset that could improve the team this year would be a smart choice (if possible).

Nice analysis by Jeff Sullivan of Fangraphs.  It would have been more fun it Trout ends up with a hit, but still worth a look.  I had the feeling Trout was just taking on the 14th pitch, but maybe it was a ball, who knows.
