Confidence is a false notion?  Have you played sports?  How do you explain hitting streaks or winning streaks?  How do you explain big rallies?

Of course confidence matters.  Now maybe you were just referring to confidence from season to season and that could be debated.

And I believe that teaching the younger players how to win, and developing confidence they can win in any situation, is more important than positioning in the draft.  Unless you getting one of the top 3 or 4 choices in the draft (which we are not), the difference between 5th and 15th is negligible (our most likely range).

This is an unfortunate time of year when we all realize, we will not be in the post-season.  Nothing can change that this year.

So, the team has some young guys playing and I like seeing if they have a future with the team.  I like watching Green, Nelson, Calhoun, etc.  I also like watching if the team has any future pitcher prospects that can get some major league experience.  I like watching Richards improve as a starter.

I never wish the players and team don't succeed.

Anyone who wishes for losses surely cannot be an Angels fan.

There is no such thing as meaningless wins.  My opinion is that the team should have the attitude that they won't roll over for anybody, and that every game you play you believe you should win.  You don't just turn that off or on at any time depending on where you are in the standings.

Here are some of our top draft picks since 2000:

    2000  Joe Torres (P) - 10th
    2001  Casey Kotchman (1B) - 13th
    2002  Joe Saunders (P) - 12th
    2003  Brandon Wood (3B) - 23rd
    2004  Jered Weaver (P) - 12th
    2006  Hank Conger © - 25th
    2009  Randall Grichuk (OF) - 24th, Mike Trout (OF) - 25th
    2010  Caleb Cowert (3B) - 18th
    2011  C.J. Chron (DH) - 17th

The only real difference makers of the past 12 years are Weaver and Trout, and they were drafted 12th and 25th.  You can't fully depend on the draft, but you have to do the best you can with it by out evaluating and scouting who is available when you pick.

I want to see the Angels finish the season strong.  If they can end the season at .500 or a couple games above .500 I'd be really happy.

I'll never get the tank mentality. I always thought when people do this for their teams in any sport that they are losers.
I'd rather go on a run, mess up others playoff chances, and set up the realization that the talent is there and get everyone motivated to come back hungry next year. I'm not interested in someone like Lastings Milledge.

I wonder if AO manages to shoehorn Arte Moreno mentions into his daily conversation. OTHER PERSON: I need to get some new tires for my car. AO: If Arte Moreno was buying tires they'd only have 30% wear left on them and he'd pay twice their actual value!

If that report is to be believed, the moment everything started to unravel was when Arte forced Reagins to trade for Wells.

To piggy back what storm said.
Rhe haren trade, while I liked having him, was weird. We were already falling out, and no matter how good he was, we needed a bat far more (at that point).
And as far as matsui, his oberall numbers looked fine. But if anyone remembers, he sucked early on. That was one of the biggest probs. He turned in on late july ish. By then it was too late.
And like njhalo said, vlad and naps' ranger numbers definetely put arte on a get even kick with texas.

tdawg is right. Imagine this scenario:

    Person A: Unicorns exist.
    Person B: No they don't.
    Person A: Yes they do.
    Person B: Prove it.
Person A: Prove that they don't exist.
Person C: Yeah, Person B! Prove that they don't exist!

This is essentially what happened in this thread.

We have a like button on here.  However, at times we need a "stupid" button or something like that!  Scioscia bringing up Hatcher made perfect sense in the realm of the article.  The focus was on his so called rift between him and Dipoto.  Scioscia simply brought up Hatcher as the only really issue and both have gotten past it.

To infer that Scioscia is obsessed with it and "still brings it up" is only brought up to show hate and show no obectivity.

Claude, you have seriously lost it. If you make Trout a preemptive arbitration offer it is to blend those years with free agency years to make both the contract good for the Angels but also Trout's long time future. At this point it is pretty obvious that Trout's rookie season was no fluke year or a flash in the pan player so if you are building a team around him you have to think of taking him out of free agency for what is most players prime years and that is through their twenties. Only an 8-10 year deal at this point makes any sense for both sides to discuss.

you don't pay him more than what he would make in his arb years and then let him walk.  That would be colossally bad idea. If you pay him more than he'd make in arb, you should get the benefit of having him around for a couple more years.

First my argument was that if your going to replace Vladdy our best offensive player after the all star break  you should find a better replacement!

Second, what F'n season are you looking at?  Matsui sucked for us!  Period.  He may have gotten hot when we were out of the race but he sucked when we needed him.  Vladdy that year???? just an All Star!

So laugh all you want but to suggest Matsui over Vladdy in 2010 ends all credibility to you.

After Hamilton was imported for $125 million over five years, that left only around $17 million to fill out a pitching staff with two starters pitchers and three relievers, with the result of the scrap-heap purchases being predictably bad.

It's a good thing that those contracts won't stop us from doing anything.
