  1. Happens every year with Scioscia at the helm. He runs his Spring Training so lackadaisical compared to other teams. I see other teams running harder drills than the Angels every year at Spring Training. Most of the Angels drills are lazy ground balls, and light jogging. For example, this year I saw the Red Sox at Spring Training in Florida...those guys drill hard, run sprints, and are just generally more focused/in shape than the Angels players. It's never going to change with Mike Scioscia as our manager.
  2. I think I'd give the Cy Young to Darvish for the simple fact that he pitches in such an extreme hitters park.
  3. Player A. 4.5 million dollars cheaper, and provides similar production other than OBP.
  4. And we play a very hard schedule the rest of the way. Still have to play Tampa 5 more times, the Rangers 7 more times, and the A's 6 more times. Could easily see us losing the vast majority of those games.
  5. Bonds was a 9 WAR player year in and year out as the skinny left fielder that played excellent defense and was a great baserunner. I highly doubt he was using back then. He is a great comp for Trout.
  6. That's "Js" Or at least that's what my friends call them.
  7. Hitting streaks and winning streaks are random statistical variations that occur in a players performance. Confidence has nothing to do with it. It's called regression to the mean. If a player is a lifetime .260/.330/.440 hitter, but he hits .330/.390/.540 one month, then .170/.260/.350 the next month, do you really think it has anything to do with confidence? It doesn't. It's basic statistics.
  8. Strongly disagree there. Also, confidence is a false notion. That's like saying momentum will carry over the offseason - there is no such thing as that.
  9. The Rangers are really good, and aren't going anywhere. We all make fun of their no WS (Myself included), but they have smart people running their organization and are led by one of the best GMs in the game in Jon Daniels.
  10. It's not a real surprise that Ervin Santana is a top 10 free agent this year. He's had years where he's a damn good #3 starter. He's had years where he's a #2 starter too. Someone will take a gamble on him. Too bad Mike Butcher is our pitching coach.
  11. Classic CB trying to insert himself into the game anyway possible. Load of shit
  12. I'm not sure what to think of him to be honest. Really concerned with his lack of ability to drive the baseball. 3 extra basehits (all doubles) in 72 career at bats is a little concerning to me. He's handled the bat well, and the walk rate looks good so far, so that's a plus. Still, I hope he shows more power at some point.
  13. Byrd is probably thrilled to be on a contender. Good for him...veteran player who gets a chance to do something in the playoffs
  14. I think this team might have a rough next 5 years. Looking at the terrible contracts that Pujols and Hamilton have, the soon decline of Weaver and Wilson, and the lack of pitching talent in our farm system...we just might be screwed. I think we're the new Mets.
  15. I'd call him up in September. Why the hell not? He's had a good season...give him 5-10 appearances see what he can bring.
  16. I seriously don't get it. Calhoun has actually played pretty well...why not let him play everyday and see what he can bring?
  17. I agree. Except I think Pujols' contract is worse than A-Rod's. A-Rods first few years were far better than Pujols'. Plus the Yankees get out of at least a season of A-Rod because of the biogenesis thing
  18. Full Circle is absolutely right. Scioscia's philosophy of "just make contact", and not working the count, and looking to take walks and drive the ball was ridiculous. We won because of pitching those years. We won despite the awful plate approaches that Hatcher/Scioscia had instilled. Striking out doesn't matter. I don't care if you strike out 250 times, if you get on base 36% of the time and hit for power.
  19. Puig is not in the conversation with Trout. His numbers are falling fast, and his BABIP is still unsustainable. He's likely a .290/.350/.530/.880 guy with good defense and questionable baserunning long term. Trout is a legit .325/.410/.565/.975 guy with good dfense and great baserunning
  20. He was awesome defensively for us, and was decent offensively. I liked him when he was an Angel. Wish him the best.
  21. Might as well call him up in September...he's having a nice season, and we have nothing to lose.
  22. Reagins was given at least 4 years (4 years too many).
