But they're 2nd in triples. I don't see the problem here

Makes you appreciate how solid Simmons was when he was here.
Even more so, you think back to how spoiled we were once upon a time... when people here used to bitch about Howie and Aybar.
It's crazy how we haven't had everyday position players, outside of Trout, in years. The handful we've had have either been hurt a lot, or sucked.
There's an underrated element to solid everyday major leaguers who put up say a 2 WAR every year. Where they aren't going to make an all star team, but aren't going to kill your team, either. And you can just pencil them in and leave them be.

If you have such doubts about the Angels’ ability to identify useful players among the major leaguers who are available to help now, why would you think they’d do better at picking from another team’s minor league players?

    Marsh minors     .288/.371/.440/.811
I hope this clears up any discussion about which player has a more likely chance to have a major league career.

    A few things:
    (1) It’s very rare for a traded player to return to the team that traded him.  Aroldis Chapman is the only one that come to my mind.
    (2) The only thing that might make Ohtani’s trade value higher in the off-season is more teams involved.  That’s it.  I can’t imagine a GM of a MLB team would see another MVP and have that affect his judgement.  And Judge will win the AL MVP this season anyways.
    (3) You only look stupid for letting a legend go if he achieves further greatness after. Nobody harps on the Cards for Pujols or the Mariners for Arod.  And those guys were generational players until they weren’t.  Ohtani could excel for another decade or for another 2 months.  Trout’s contract could be Pujols-esque in a few years.  So acting like it’s a forgone conclusion that the “dumb team traded a legend” scenario is inevitable is wrong.  It could go either way.

We can only hope. If Adell/Walsh/Stassi continue slumping I want to see a lineup with all sub-.200 hitters in late September (which will probably inexplicably score 10+ runs, and still lose)

Ah yes, time to "retool" just as we've done highly successfully for the last decade
