If my kid were drafted by the Angels out of HS, I'd tell them to go to college.

When you are 20 years old you also think you can put up with a lot of guff.
Shitty food, sleep, and stress might not hit them the same or in the moment but it still takes a toll, even if they don’t realize it.
And I wouldn’t say a majority of these prospects are landing six-figure bonuses, especially once taxes and commissions kick in. A lot of these players are still signing for less than that. Some are signing for four-figure bonuses. And yes, $125k bonus is technically six-figures, but that won’t go very far over the course of a typical minor league career, though obviously, it’s still a great start.

Yeah I gotchu. It def isn’t the cause of or solution to the probs. But it could only make it better, if for nothing else than removing a negative. What @AngelsFaninGA said rings true here too I would think.
I mean hell at this point it would probably be worth it just for the good PR.

If they're skimping on basic necessities like housing and food, there's a good chance they're also skimping on more directly related player development expenses too. At least that's the usual correlation in corporate settings

There's a pattern here, of being cheap with minor leaguers as compared to other teams. And what do you know, our production of major leaguers from our minor league system is also terrible compared to other teams. Where's there's smoke and such.
To paraphrase Stalin "Quantity has a quality all its own" - spend more, you'll probably improve the wretched badness that's been our minor league system for years. Spend better, great idea. But it's obvious this team is cheap with its minor league system compared to other teams.

I don't think the player conditions are themselves a big deal, but I think it speaks to a larger 'culture' at play in the organization. None of us know anything for sure, but rumors often have an ounce of truth, and where there is smoke there is fire. The focus has always been on providing resources to the top levels of the organization, and those likely are taken away from the foundation.
With so many prospects failing to develop you have to wonder if they are being given the tools they need to improve at the pace required in order to become successful major leaguers.

AngelsFaninGA reacted to ThisismineScios in The Official 2022 Los Angeles Angels Minor League Stats, Reports & Scouting Thread
It really does seem like he comes to the plate every AB without any semblance of an approach. Tonight he looked at 3 strikes in the exact same spot. They were all borderline calls, but after the first two are called how are you mentally not prepared for it again? I love his tools, he just seems to have no confidence whatsoever. I hope they have the foresight to send him down. He needs to see himself succeed at the plate. Adell needs to convince himself and Perry he can hit and field in the ML level
I also hope him and Adell take this off-season and stay off of Instagram. They should read ESPN’s article on Arenado, chat up T Ward’s guy, and visit every swing doctor, VR spot, Driveline, and other facility they can. I fear instead they’ll go to their hometowns, post batting cage and workout videos, and come to ST thinking surely this is the year.

Bingo.
And with how cagey Minasian and others have been in commenting about what they've done even just for minor league player conditions it's not very encouraging.
It's crazy, you'd have to think that for the price of anywhere from a back-up catcher to a mid-reliever, they could radically enhance so much in terms of development, player comfort, lodging, condition, food, facilities - not even considering the scouting aspect here - and see probably a greater ROI in 2-5 years from those players than what they'd get from that aforementioned cheap FA signing.

Maybe they should try the opposite approach. Fire sale and intentionally field the worst team possible. Then suddenly they win 105 games and make the WS

AngelsFaninGA reacted to Docwaukee in Bowden: “[The Angels] are fielding phone calls and they are listening [on Ohtani]”
there's a law of diminishing return for guys who are good and club controlled. Do we ever see a team trade a really good player with more than 3 years of control. Typically it's 1 to 2. Mostly because Mostly because trying to obtain the additional value for that extra year or two isn't linear. Teams have a finite amount of value available in their org.

I don't get it. What is the benefit of trading Sandoval? How does that improve the team?
