  1. I guess the one good thing to be taken from this is that the AAV of the contract isn't so record-breaking that it shocks the conscience. In fact I wouldn't mind seeing the Angels get Trout's free agent years for that price. Three or four free agent years at $31 mil, plus another $50 mil for his arbitration years would give him a contract of between 6/140 and 7/170.
  2. I agree completely, I just don't see him taking a minor league deal.
  3. Assuming they go with seven relievers, and assuming DDLR either starts the season with the big club or is activated toward the end of next week, who takes the remaining spots? I think these guys are locks: Frieri Smith Jepsen Salas DDLR Maronde should also get a spot because we really need a left reliever. That leaves one spot for Rasmus, Lyon, or Kohn. Rasmus has had the best spring, Lyon has a proven track record, and Kohn has the best stuff (and is out of options, I am told). So who takes the last two spots?
  4. At this point, it does look like about as bad of an off-season as a team can have. But, and maybe I am just naïve, I still have hope that Hamilton will turn things around and earn his salary.
  5. This team has the potential to be really, really good, if only a few things can come together and the team can stay healthy. If most of the guys play to their potential, this team could win 90+ games quite easily.
  6. I don't have a problem with this move. With how good our offense ought to be, we should be able to afford to keep a light-hitting elite defending MIF.
  7. I am concerned about the lack of a deal. Hopefully this is something that has been resolved and gets announced early next week, but for now I have to wonder why the momentum appears to have stalled. Did Dipoto address this at fanfest?
  8. Skaggs had pretty good control in the minors, I don't understand why he has struggled so much with it at the big level.
  9. Trout, Kershaw, Miguel Cabrera, Evan Longoria, and with Tulowitzki, McCutchen, Cano or Stanton.
  10. I honestly thought this was a joke thread. I can't recall any team, even an Angels team, with such bad injury luck.
  11. fletcher, you think Rasmus has any chance to make the team?
  12. If we win the World Series in 2014, I won't give a f*&k what happens in 2015.
  13. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/astros-inquiring-on-first-basemen.html Would you send them Cron? Do they have any starting pitchers we could get back?
  14. Porcello's ERA has actually gone down each of the last three seasons, and his k/9 and k/bb ratios have improved each of the last three years. Clearly, he looks to be improving.
  15. I would probably do Porcello for Aybar, and I think that would be close to a fair straight-up trade. Both guys are about average at their positions, and both cost about the same. Only difference is that Aybar is under contract for an extra year, so perhaps the Tigers would need to add a prospect to the deal.
  16. I hate to see guys get injured, but of course this obviously helps the Angels. It makes me now think that, at least on papers, the Angels/A's/Rangers are all really close to one another.
  17. If Pujols and Hamilton return to form (or even something in the .850-.880 OPS range), this will easily be the best offense in baseball.
  18. East Orange. Off Chapman and Newport. Great area, and a quick toll ride drive away from Irvine.
  19. That stupid church has forever ruined "Hey Jude" for me.
  20. Good to see that info on Cron. He could be a big addition to the roster come July.
  21. Doesn't Pena have to make the team? Who else can play first? Obviously Conger is a lock. I don't care for Shuck as a player, so I would prefer Long or Cowgill. And while I like Green's upside with the bat, we can't afford to lose Romine (who is out of options I believe).
  22. That's the thing, I don't think he is every going to put it together. But he still has the raw stuff to be serviceable, and there is nothing wrong with a guy who can give you 190 innings of 4.00 ERA.
  23. Really? I read only that he had a sore elbow, but that the MRI was clean.
