  1. Ibanez, Aybar, Kendrick and Freese have combined for a .550 OPS. They all suck, and at this point I could care less if any of them were traded.
  2. It seems lime they are giving up a minimum of 8 runs every single game they play.
  3. Some interesting things tonight...Grant Green had a couple more hits. He is now hitting .400. Yes, small sample size, but it isn't that small. Looks like he might be ready to hit major league pitching. Morin appears to have been promoted to AAA, and got lit up tonight (cue "he is ready to pitch for the Angels"). And the Burlington team stole 11 bases in their 18 inning game.
  4. I don't ever make domestic violence jokes, and I wasn't trying to make domestic violence funny here. I hate wife abusers. I only posted what I did because Pujols had a straight, serious look on his face (as though he doesn't care for Callapso).
  5. And don't look now, but Grichuk is killing it in AAA.
  6. All the more reason why Mike Mussina (270 wins?) should have been a first ballot Hall of Famer.
  7. Scott I think the problem is that there aren't many common milestones. Other than 300 wins, 500 home runs, and 3,000 hits, there aren't many other commonly recognized milestones.
  8. I was shocked to read the other day that Miguel Cabrera is already at 2,000 hits (I think he turns 32 this week). I don't think it would be a stretch for him to get to 3,000 in his age-37 season, at which point he will still have 5 years of a contract. Assuming no major injuries, he is a lock for 3,000 (and probably well over 3,500).
  9. The slider on which he struck out Hart was the best slider I have ever seen him throw. Much more movement than what he was throwing last year.
  10. Good thread. As frustrating as the first nine games have been at times, this is a much better start than last year.
  11. Not to knock anyone here who likes Shuck, but I don't get why the word "Shuck" causes people to think "heart," "grit," and "hustle." Does anyone who is incapable if hitting a ball over an outfield wall automatically get assigned those virtues? Personally, Shuck is the last guy I want to see replace Hamilton. Why can't Long be given a shot? Or even Boesch.
  12. One of the things I find so tragic (though I guess this will always be the case when one dies in an auto accident) is that so many different on-field events could have radically altered the game and, by consequence, the time Nick departed the stadium that evening. For example, my recollection is that Mike Napoli made a critical throwing error that caused the game to go into extras. If he doesn't make that error, the game ends and Nick never gets hit by the drunk driver. Of course that logic can apply to so many other events within the game, but I can't help but think that some of the players might feel some sense of guilt about it all. Thus I think the sadness probably extends much further than would appear at a superficial glance.
  13. That was such a terrible day. I don't think I have ever been so effected by the death of a person I didn't know.
  14. The Register is stupid. I have a hard time believing their firewall has been good for business.
  15. I just read the last five pages of this thread for the first time. I am surprised so many people got so butt hurt about Poozy's and YOT's comments, because I thought their comments were pretty objective and fair. And now, it is looking like they were dead on accurate. I hope Weaver can pick up the velocity a bit because he is one of my favorite players, but I am very concerned about what i am seeing.
  16. Also Trumho will cost the D-backs $25 mil the next three years, while Skaggs and Santiago will probably cost the Angels about half that.
  17. skaggs is only half of the return we got in that deal.
  18. I thought he was on the fast track to the HOF a few years ago. Can't believe how quickly he has fallen off a cliff, at what hasn't been a very old age.
  19. I try not to be a sky is falling guy, and I realize it is only two games, but unfortunately a baseball team can dig myself into a big hole really quickly. A 2-8 start, for example, could prove to be too big of a deficit to overcome. I am not concerned now, but if they lose again tonight I think the pressure will be on.
  20. Just goes to show that when you account for your mistakes, people will want to forgive you and move on. Amazing so few other players have taken the Braun approach to things.
  21. It is amazing how much talent Richards and Skaggs actually have. I have never seen a fastball live as much as Richards' fastball, and Skaggs has an absurd fastball and curve. If those two can out it together, this team will be quite good.
  22. I would support giving him an extension now. His worst decision, IMO, was the Greinke trade. I have to believe Arte was calling the shots on Hamilton and Pujols. Some of his other failed moves (Blanton and Hanson) really haven't been that harmful, and he has made some good moves. I think Jerry has guts too. The Trumbo tade was gutsy, and I like a GM who won't be swayed by doing what is popular. I think he has a good plan that will take at least another three years to put into place. I would give him more time to see it through.
  23. I was strongly in the camp of "offer a 22-year old $100+ mil and there is no way he will turn it down." Now that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if he desires to play on the East coast and will be difficult/impossible to sign before free agency next time around.
