Sliding headfirst into first base does not equate to "making an effort" any moreso than just running through the bag.  It's like commending someone for picking up dogshit with their hands instead of a shovel because it requires more effort and grit.
 
There's no reason for any player to ever slide while running to first.  The risk vs. reward is pretty much nonexistent; all risk zero reward. 

Skaggs, by himself, is at least as equally promising as Trumbo.

Given the massive cultural differences between Hispanic players and the different roads they need to take in order to reach MLB, I don't see much in common -- other than a common language.
 
BTW, did you see that big country ass white kid from the hicks currently in the Red Sox system and how he mouthed off to the cops after getting pulled over for driving on a suspended license?  How about that nice white kid from SD (Matt Bush), former first rounder and first overall pick,..   He ran over a nice old man and is in prison now -- this is after he was caught on camera beating a kid with a golf club while screaming "I'm Matt #$%%ing Bush" and slapped a chick at a party. Then there are Jeff Allison, Josh Hamilton...  Lots more like them...  
 
Why does this sort of behavior appear almost exclusively in rich white kids from well to do backgrounds?.  This almost implies their behavior is tolerated at home which seems hard to believe...

He's had one bad season, as far as the record goes, since he has been a GM. However, that one season, lies solely on the pitchers he brought in. Now we can argue that the pitchers he brought in were caused by the fact that they spent a majority of their budget on Hamilton, which probably wasn't his decision. I just really like the new philosophy he has instilled in the minors, and I am pretty sure it will take a number of years before that philosophy, and his drafts come together to where we can see the fruits of his labor. It comes down to confidence. Do you have the confidence he can build a winner, not just at the major league level, but in the area of player development? I say yes.

If hamilton and pujols rake this year, we'll say 'good job jerry'. If they suck, we'll blame arte. And to be fair, from what we know (as fans not insiders), that would be accurate.
The truth is we have no real idea what his budget restraints are. We dont know how many guys we really could have gotten and didnt, and how many he really had no choice to get. His moves last year look like white dog shit. But to be fair, its hard to pay for premium cable and a family vacation when your wife spent your savings on an expensive handbag that was already going out of style.
I like what I see about the organizational changes though. To really see how hes done, you really have to give him more than 3 years.

You know what would be great and totally unrealistic and has a 0% chance of happening? Halos trade Aybar and something else to the Cards for Wacha or Carlos Martinez and Kolten Wong. With them now having Kolten Wong(2B prospect), they can trade Howie for another SP

1 more recruiting cycle on probation just means that you're only starting to see the effects of drastically reduce depth on the field. Also, your coach is a complete piece of garbage.
