I can’t say that I agree with stretching out Wantz and now Soriano as SP depth, especially with other options out there. If we need another SP, we should just sign one of Bauer, Clevenger, or make a deal toward the end of ST for another option. The bullpen could be a strength of this team with Soriano down there.

I’m ok with this. The only thing that I’d change is O’hoppe 8th and Adell 7th, maybe even 6th, with Moniak or Rengifo in the 7 hole. Adell will hit his way up the lineup.

The 2 pitchers won’t get that much, IMO. Camps are already open, and with every day they’re out, they’re falling behind.

This happens any time a star player files for FA in baseball. It was just magnified because of what Ohtani was doing while he was here.
Now that he isn't here, that focus will go to Ohtani's new team, in this case it is the guys across town.
For the Angels, it will provide a return to normalcy, and a chance for other players to shine, especially the younger guys, like Schaunel, Neto, and O'hoppe.
With full season contributions from those guys, and a return to health from others, specifically Rendon and Trout, I think we'll see a good team out there.

I'd offer Bauer the ML minimum deal that he said he'd accept, and offer Bellinger a 5 or 6 year deal.
I really think we haven't done anything to replace Ohtani's impact on our offense.

I think this is the first Guillermo the Angels have ever had, no?
No. Guillermo (Willie) Montanez.

Agree that Estevez may bring back a piece to help the offense. Or another decent SP option.

I'm really starting to wonder what we're going to do with all the relievers we've signed. Estevez, Soriano, Joyce, Moore, Stephenson, Garcia and maybe Cimber and Plesac are the guys that should be down there on opening day.
Where do the guys like Cisnero, Warren, Wantz, Herget, Suarez, Bachman and the others fit? I think that at least one or two of them will be traded toward the end of ST to add depth in the lower levels of the minors.

The lie is he plays good defense. We don’t have a lot of those.
If he can hit .240, and save 4 or 5 runs a season with his glove, then he'd be worth his deal.

This guy. His 1979 season was incredible!

I'd really like to see our young starting pitchers really take a step up, and try to make it to 30-31 starts and 170-180 IP. Especially Canning and Sandoval. If the group can do that, the team should have a very good season.

Houck’s numbers would probably improve outside of Fenway, also their infield defense was lousy for most of the season, until Trevor Story returned to SS.

I don't know that I'd give Clev 2 years. His K's have kind of tanked since 2019, although he's a solid pitcher. That essentially means you're paying $25 million this year and next for Tyler Anderson and Clevinger. I'd definitely sign him for 1 year. Next year's SP group is pretty strong, and you can easily trade Anderson with 1 year left on his deal.
I've waffled on Anderson. Part of me would rather have Drury/Rengifo at 2nd. Anderson hit the ball on the ground way more last year, and his fly balls went way down. I do think there's an easy angle adjustment there--I think that's an adjustment Ward made, although I could be wrong.
I am a big Turner guy. He's just a pro hitter, and can platoon with Schanuel a bit and cover 3rd if absolutely necessary. He can also be your DH 75% of the time. I think one thing that's gotten misunderstood is "leaving the DH open". A guy like Turner leaves it open because he can play in the field. JDM/Soler will occupy that spot almost all the time.
If you make these three moves, what do you do with Suarez, Drury, Rengifo, and Adell? I don't think you can keep all 4 of them if you sign these 3.
I don’t think that we need Anderson at all. MOTO bat, yes. Bellinger. SP, yes. I’d like a RHSP, but I don’t think a Burnes trade is going to happen. Maybe Ward & Sandoval for Burnes?

I can't think of a MLB player who got hit in the head and never mentally recovered. I can think of some pitchers who got the yips.
Tony Conigliaro. Bad beaning, directly in the eye. Retired from the Angels in '71, I think, after an 0-5 or 0-6 all K game against the A's, IIRC.

I was in attendance for two of those games, Sutton's 300th in '86, and Pujols' 600th in 2017. The 600th, a grand slam off of Ervin Santana, was very nice, but the 300th win by Sutton was special.

Lol. Even as a minor league deal, this is a wtf move.
Hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019 and had an 11.51 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in limited innings at AAA last year.

A 1.10 ERA in winter ball. Other teams also do this, sometimes you find a clean peanut.

Yeah, "before that" being the key point here--as is the fact that he's 40 years old!
Jesus, people, we can do better.
My point is that we lost 40 HR, 100 plus RBI, 100 runs scored, and 25 SB when Shohei left town, and we haven't done ANYTHING to address that loss. It will take contributions from more than one player to replace what Ohtani alone provided.
If we must stay within the budget, Turner and Votto are two good choices.

IMO, most of the contenders are done with their heavy lifting. If Moustakas and Votto want another big league payday, it may be with teams that are defined as non contenders.

We don't sign anyone, and people complain. We sign someone, and people complain.
One of the areas we needed help with was the bullpen. Now, with Estevez and Stephenson, the bullpen is a lot better.
We now have a good young core of position players, a good group of young starters, and an improved bullpen.
This team is better than some of you think.

No. If we can do that, we rotate the OF's, Schaunel, and Rendon through the DH spot.
