Then the government needs to do a better job of regulating hospitals if this is the path they take.
I still believe a single payer system would be better because it cuts out a lot of wasted money, no offense.

In the end, does it change the negotiating power of insurance companies? In effect lowering prices for the patient?
Everyone would still have coverage in the end. What's stopping them from charging so much?

Look at it from the consumer's point of view, you don't get insurance to cover your runny nose.
I'm not sure if a free market with the insurance industry would work out so well. I could see the insurance companies trying to dodge out of the way of so many charges "sorry, we don't cover that."
