  1. One taken on Mt. Charleston north of Las Vegas not too long ago. The t-shirt is from the Las Vegas Gator Club, of which I am currently president and I am one of two founding members. Tried to find one in Angels gear from my last trip to the stadium, but don't know where that one is at the moment.
  2. According to an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal it was leased. The paper paints a brutal picture of a ruthless pimp who drove a leased Maserati and lived in a $2,900 per month condo despite having no visible means of support. Story on Kenny Clutch Police have found the Range Rover used in the shooting and they have issued a photo and released the identity of a man suspected to be the shooter, who is still at large. Story on wanted shooter and photo of SUV
  3. GB, I liked Mr. Baseball, because it gave insight into the way the game is played in Japan. Another good one, although it is a miniseries rather than a movie, is The Bronx is Burning. It's about the Yankees of the late 1970s and all the drama with Reggie Jackson, Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner. Very well done. A nice feature is that they included a lot of the news items going on in the city at the time, like the Son of Sam killings and the mayoral election when Ed Koch was elected.
  4. Heavy winds started here yesterday afternoon, still hear them going now. Of course, tomorrow is recycle day, when I will have a lot of light objects in open bins out on the curb. Never fails.
  5. Okay - as far as local places, Ricardo's, Leticia's Mexican Cocina and Macayo Vegas for Mexican food. Mark Rich's New York Pizza and Metro Pizza for...you guessed it. Still looking for a decent Chinese place, since the one I liked best went under. Little Dumpling and Grand China aren't bad, but they aren't great either. The Cracked Egg for breakfast. Panevino and Carmine's Italian Kitchen for Italian (my favorite Italian place went under as well). Gordon Biersch for brewed beers and good domestic food. Someone else mentioned Famous Dave's. Not sure how that got left off my list. Very good barbecue. I also hit Outback Steakhouse from time to time. Black Bear Diner is excellent for home style food. I also like Cracker Barrel, but we don't have any in Nevada. The nearest ones are in Kingman, AZ and St. George, UT. Gotta have Denny's on the list too, since it is one of the few places in the west where you can get grits.
  6. Think of all the rallies that won't be killed. This is a huge loss for the Marlins. They might score runs now.
  7. I'm not sure you can find enough tickets to send the whole team to the Super Bowl.
  8. Let 'em go to Europe crammed into a coach seat on United like I did. Eleven hours of having someone's seat back in their chests ought to do the trick.
  9. If the alignment of home plate is plaguing Vernon Wells, it had to affect Scott Kazmir. We really need to have that looked at.
  10. Fast food: In N Out, Raising Cane's, Five Guys, Subway Restaurants: On the Border, Acapulco, Olive Garden, Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House, Fleming's, Mimi's Cafe, Chili's. I stuck to chain places, since most of you are in California and wouldn't know the local places in Las Vegas.
  11. I have bought doughnuts at this place. It's excellent. I commend you on your taste.
  12. I figured there was more to this than just the Pope's health. Young men don't become Pope, and they are pretty much old and frail when they take the job.
  13. I know he's around, because I saw him on the chat forum this afternoon.
  14. Spiderman dies in fall from hospital tower. Film at 11. That is a cool story, though. Great idea to entertain the kids.
  15. A TSA agent in Denver (who obviously wasn't a native English speaker) initially refused to allow me access to the concourse for my connecting flight because he was incapable of identifying my boarding pass. He kept telling me "I need to see your boarding pass", which he was holding in his hand. I suppose that the words BOARDING PASS, the name of the airline, flight number, date, time and seat number weren't proof enough. He finally relented just before I called for a supervisor.
  16. The end result is terrific work. I commend the artist (the second one, anyway).
  17. That would make sense. Red paint in particular doesn't weather well.
  18. You certainly have a better shot at that with Mora than with Rick Neuheisel. Neuheisel was best at (1) baiting the NCAA, and (2) clandestinely looking for his next job.
  19. Nothing like a great political discussion. What an epic thread.
