  1. Don't worry. A pre-election poll said that Obama would do a better job at protecting us from space aliens than Romney. I'm sure that the same data applies to zombies.
  2. Uh, no. I said that they were on the side of that crowd, not that they were part of it or that guns were their primary focus. Thanks for playing.
  3. Not quite what I said, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and interpret it that way.
  4. Again, people applying a 21st Century take on an 18th Century document. Add to that the fact that the Supreme Court has a majority of Justices who already side with the "gun rights above all else" crowd, and you aren't going to get an objective interpretation anyway. The Second Amendment isn't the only amendment to get a skewed interpretation. The First Amendment, which protects free speech, has been more broadly interpreted to protect all manner of expression, including burning an American flag, which isn't speech at all.
  5. A bargain at a mere $21M for the season. And this is our fallback position if Bourjos doesn't hit.
  6. This item currently up for auction on eBay, with an opening bid price of a mere $85K - or make an offer. Listing for B-52 Stratofortress cockpit
  7. Neither did working with the supposed best hitting coach in baseball, or spending time with the Pirates.
  8. It's hard for me to associate Erick Aybar with the term "team leader". I've just seen too many mistakes from lackadaisical play.
  9. Since people cry "constitutional right" on this issue, I am more interested in the intentions of the people who wrote the amendment than the interpretations of those applying it two centuries later to a context far different from the one for which it was written. I am looking at it from the perspective of the authors of the amendment. They could not have possibly imagined AK-47s and high capacity handguns when they wrote this. Weapons were flintlock and had to be loaded one round at a time when this was conceived. Killing dozens of people in a short period of time with a firearm was impossible. IMO, if you need an assault rifle for home defense, you are either an incredibly bad shot who will undoubtedly injure or kill uninvolved people in the process, or your home is being invaded by Navy SEALS, in which case you're screwed anyway. I'm not trying to take your guns. I just believe that there are some that should be confined to military and law enforcement use. This isn't the 1700s.
  10. This discussion was going along just fine until you tried to inject reason into it. Hijacker.
  11. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. It seems very clear that the main intention is to arm the people for creation of a militia. That is the opening statement. The fledgling country did not have much of an army, and citizens might have been called upon to fight. I don't see much there to misinterpret or read "incorrectly" or "incompletely".
  12. Before Dipoto got here, the manager essentially was the GM. Scioscia can't be happy about the erosion of his influence in deciding the roster. Dipoto set out almost immediately putting his stamp on the team and ridding the club of Scioscia's crutches, Jeff Mathis and Mickey Hatcher. I believe that Vernon Wells would also be gone, had the club been able to find a suitable deal.
  13. He was pitching for the Sugarland Skeeters, an independent league team outside of Houston, the same team also tied to a possible Roger Clemens comeback at one point. I joked that they were loading up their pitching staff for a best-of-seven against the Astros to determine the city champion of Houston. Kazmir compiled a 3-6 record with the Skeeters, surrendering 74 hits in 64 innings - against guys not good enough to get contracts from any major league organization. If he does stick with the Indians, it would be one of the most epic comebacks in major league history. Here is an article I found about him signing with the Indians, entitled "Can Kazmir Take the Abuse?". Article by Paul Leibowitz
  14. I suppose that this means we have to tip two caps and turn two pages.
  15. I am divided on this issue. I am not for an outright ban. For something like that to work, it would have had to have been implemented over 200 years ago. Removing guns from the streets simply isn't realistic. However, the founding fathers had no intention, IMO, of private individuals being armed like small countries, and they had no intention of the general public having open access to weapons they could not have dreamed of when the Second Amendment was written. The purpose of the amendment was for the citizenry to have weapons in case they were called into battle as a "well organized militia" - not to arm the entire populace to the teeth.
  16. One taken on Mt. Charleston north of Las Vegas not too long ago. The t-shirt is from the Las Vegas Gator Club, of which I am currently president and I am one of two founding members. Tried to find one in Angels gear from my last trip to the stadium, but don't know where that one is at the moment.
  17. According to an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal it was leased. The paper paints a brutal picture of a ruthless pimp who drove a leased Maserati and lived in a $2,900 per month condo despite having no visible means of support. Story on Kenny Clutch Police have found the Range Rover used in the shooting and they have issued a photo and released the identity of a man suspected to be the shooter, who is still at large. Story on wanted shooter and photo of SUV
  18. GB, I liked Mr. Baseball, because it gave insight into the way the game is played in Japan. Another good one, although it is a miniseries rather than a movie, is The Bronx is Burning. It's about the Yankees of the late 1970s and all the drama with Reggie Jackson, Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner. Very well done. A nice feature is that they included a lot of the news items going on in the city at the time, like the Son of Sam killings and the mayoral election when Ed Koch was elected.
  19. Heavy winds started here yesterday afternoon, still hear them going now. Of course, tomorrow is recycle day, when I will have a lot of light objects in open bins out on the curb. Never fails.
  20. Okay - as far as local places, Ricardo's, Leticia's Mexican Cocina and Macayo Vegas for Mexican food. Mark Rich's New York Pizza and Metro Pizza for...you guessed it. Still looking for a decent Chinese place, since the one I liked best went under. Little Dumpling and Grand China aren't bad, but they aren't great either. The Cracked Egg for breakfast. Panevino and Carmine's Italian Kitchen for Italian (my favorite Italian place went under as well). Gordon Biersch for brewed beers and good domestic food. Someone else mentioned Famous Dave's. Not sure how that got left off my list. Very good barbecue. I also hit Outback Steakhouse from time to time. Black Bear Diner is excellent for home style food. I also like Cracker Barrel, but we don't have any in Nevada. The nearest ones are in Kingman, AZ and St. George, UT. Gotta have Denny's on the list too, since it is one of the few places in the west where you can get grits.
