  1. And if they do happen to exceed his expectations and win, he dumps everybody on the roster before he has to pay them accordingly.
  2. I just played around with the profile until I figured out how. It wasn't that complicated.
  3. They're crowing because Hamilton went 0-for-3 in a spring training game. Glad everything is going so swimmingly in Rangers camp that there was nothing to report.
  4. Looking at the play (video), it appears that the catcher was set up for a sweep tag. He was to the side of the plate and Erstad went for the catcher.
  5. Jose is still in spring training form, a bit rusty. I've heard far better from him. This quote is OK, but it's not shirt-worthy. Pick up your game, Jose.
  6. What he is doing is called Mathising. The guy who sits closest to the manager gets to play whether he hits or not.
  7. Thanks for throwing that in, Tank. Somebody had to do it.
  8. I will second that. Any pizza that has been frozen is already shot.
  9. It wasn't the greatest timing for that kind of statement.
  10. It must be down to single digits at least.
  11. We got clocked using a bunch of guys who will be deep in the minors by the end of next month. Spring training games mean jack. And I would say the same thing if we were 4-0. Their value in predicting regular season success is zilch.
  12. Yes, but we have our man on the scene. Who needs beat writers when we have that kind of inside information?
  13. There but for the grace of God goes my city. Jeffrey Loria and some of his ownership group had serious talks in 2004 with city leaders about moving the Marlins to Las Vegas. I had rather have AAA baseball than that sorry excuse for an MLB franchise. Oh, and Jeff Mathis would be on my team now. To Toronto.
  14. Looking at his stats from last year, I believe that he already has.
  15. When I read things like this, I can't help but root for Wells to do well. He says all the right things, he isn't demanding playing time or to be traded, and he puts the onus on himself to earn the opportunity. I can't say that I'm thrilled that he is on the roster, but if you are stuck with a player it might as well be one with a positive attitude.
  16. If we could have found someone to take half of Wells' contract, he would already be gone. Rumor has it that potential trade partners are asking for the Angels to pick up more like 90 percent.
  17. Spring training games, especially early ones, are all about seeing what the kids can do, even some who you are pretty sure won't make the roster when the big club breaks camp. Dropping a game on February 24 is hardly a catastrophe. The field staff already has a pretty good idea of what their major leaguers can do. Going all out to win spring training games isn't something you are going to see a lot of clubs do.
  18. .300 hitter, Gold Glover, and after all, the Yankees are a franchise bigger on history than any other in the game. Who cares how long ago it was?
  19. I'm wondering where he is going. The number of teams looking for QBs isn't large, and apparently Philadelphia and Kansas City are talking about Nick Foles. My Jaguars could certainly use a QB of Smith's caliber, but I don't know if they have enough other parts in place for a QB to make a big difference. I also don't know what they could have that the Niners would be interested in - since Smith isn't worth the #2 overall pick in the draft.
  20. This is the most important piece of advice anyone could give you about an autograph situation. I have seen people violate it, even in the minor leagues. It is especially true if the player is one who has spent significant time in the majors.
