DMVol got a reaction from wopphil in Kendrys really blew it
He lands on his feet more often than not....but he overplays a weak hand occasionally too....he may have with KMo....

DMVol got a reaction from HaloCory22 in Offseason definitely on track
I like the Trumbo trade, a lot....I thought, and still think, that the Bourjos/Freese trade was a stinker....We'll see where things end up but it's kind of been a roller coaster ride so far, at least for me....

DMVol got a reaction from Halos of Anaheim in Is this a good trade?
Average pitchers don't have his hits to innings pitched ratio or strikeouts to innings pitched ratio, at least at his age...Try again....

DMVol reacted to DMVol in Give up Trumbo or Kendrick?
If the trade market is flat and Arte is serious about not spending, it's going to be a couple of starters like Maholm (we could do worse)....otherwise, my concern is that DiPoto, with his job on the line, panics and makes another bad trade...he's already made one stinker this offseason.

DMVol got a reaction from GalericX in The Bourjos Trade: Lemons or Lemonade?
+1....my sentiments exactamundo...liked the Jerry hiring, a lot...but this is further proof, after last offseason, that he's going to leave things in a total mess...

DMVol got a reaction from The Dude in For those who support the trade
I don't get the logic that, in order to make room for Calhoun (not a bad idea), you make an awful deal for Bourjos (a terrible idea)....why not just wait until you get a better offer....work on something else, wait till spring but don't a dumb thing just because you want to get Calhoun in the lineup...

DMVol got a reaction from HaloCory22 in Bourjos traded to Cardinals
Everybody not named Chuck Richter and Jerry DiPoto thinks it's a bad trade....

When the Wells trade happened, every knowledgeable baseball pundit panned the Angels. They all turned out to be right. Here, the same thing is happening. There can be no doubt this was a one-sided trade.

No one was holding a gun to Dipoto's head and forcing him to trade Bourjos.

DMVol got a reaction from Vladdylonglegs in Royals to sign Jason Vargas
I guess that's 32 million we saved and can now invest in Pujols and Hamilton....oh wait, those contracts don't effect what we do.....
-
DMVol got a reaction from Torridd in Angels interested in Arroyo
Probably unfair to him, because he had a decent year this year, but that signing would have a very "Blantonesque" feel to it....

DMVol got a reaction from SlappyUtilityMIF in LA Times: Angels unlikely to make Jason Vargas a qualifying offer; to pursue pitching via trade
+1....not sure of the logic there.....if you are pretty sure he's going to decline it, it would be stupid not to offer....if he accepts, then it's not like you're stuck with a Hamilton, Pujols, Wells, GMJr goshawful multi-year deal....it's one year of overpaying a middle to middle/back of the rotation guy....and, in this market, it wouldn't be overpaying by a ton either...hell, Joe Blanton gets 8 million next year....why is paying Vargas, who has been pretty consistent for 4/5 years, 14 all that bad anyway? He'd want a multi-year deal of something like 3/30 or more....I like DiPoto and I like Arte but our roster management, since 09 (not all on DiPoto obviously), has been a head scratcher....

If Vargas is expected to decline tue offer why the hell not offer it and get a draft pick?

I personally think Kendrick and Trumbo are more likely to be traded than Bourjos. PB being on the injured list will make his trade value difficult to get a starting pitcher. Trumbo will get us a starting pitcher. Kendrick will get us a starting pitcher + something else. PB could be packaged withe someone with Trumbo to get us a starting pitcher +

I think at least 1, possibly 2, of Trumbo/Kendrick/Bourjos will be traded this offseason. It's by far their best chance at adding good SP.

Wally: I was probably a little old school over the top, duh...but the A's are good primarily because they can pitch and pitch very, very well...we haven't pitched that well for awhile...that makes for good chemistry, methinks...

Have things changed then? The 1972-1974 A's did not get along all that well, but they only won THREE straight WS titles. They won not mainly because of chemistry but because of the fact that Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Ken Holtzman, Rollie Fingers, Reggie Jackson, Joe Rudi, Sal Bando, Campy Campaneris, and Gene Tenace were extremely clutch players.
