Chico got a reaction from Inside Pitch in OC Register: Trial in wrongful death suit against Angels in Tyler Skaggs case is postponed
I don't think Arte has any business being a MLB owner. Decision after decision bears this out over many years. I don't have to repeat those "superstars" he handpicked, overstepping the GM and grossly overpaid to long contracts, (they failed) those he traded away or let go for nothing, and had success elsewhere. When he had success stories like Trout and Ohtani, he couldn't field a good team along with them. Not to mention the Skaggs case and other problems within the organization. Whether he's involved or not, he  has a touch of s*** and needs to sell. I'm just grateful for 2002.

Arte could buy himself some good will if he would come out and say that we are switching our focus to development and, rather than paying ridiculous free agent salaries, we will invest in that area. I think most would understand that.
He won’t. He has a record of thinking only short term. Whether it’s his age, or vanity, he only wants to invest in new shiny toys.

Looks like a pattern is forming. Win 6-0 or 9-0 then lose five or six games...

The Angels had three first ballot HOF players on the same team for a bit.  Pujols, Ohtani, Trout. Yet they couldn't come close to contending. Plus quickly added a defending MVP in Rendon.
It's so transparently clear that Arte's vision of a baseball team doesn't work. It's a team game. Yet he always has prioritized the big names. And subsequently spent the payroll disproportionately.
Not enough organic growth and development. Or patience.  And probably not the best teachers in the system.
And even some of the young players have failed because they were rushed, not schooled enough or were over hyped. Quick fixes rarely work with prospects expected to be starters or have major roles. It's the exception when they do, and a bad managerial philosophy.
The last half decade or so has been this pattern. Gambling on big names to carry the load, rushing prospects and filling the rest of the roster with journeymen, retreads or guys recovering from serious injuries. As well as playing constantly for the long ball while neglecting pitching, contact hitting,  speed and defense. With multiple managers who seem paralyzed and unable to make a difference.

I was just behind Blarg, 1970 for me.  It felt like we couldn't score at all in the early 70's, kind of like what's going on now.  Relying on mediocre hitters that have washed out of other organizations as our 3-4-5 hitters is bad, really bad.  We can only hope that the draft can bring in a serious influx of talent, both at the plate and on the mound.
One thing that I've never understood is that so many good So. Cal based players become stars for other teams, but the Angels never seem to draft any of them.  Troy Glaus is about the only one that comes to mind that was a local guy selected by the Angels.

Chico reacted to samwum in Angels trade Jimmy Herget to the Braves for cash
This one is actually really interesting.
Perry has shipped off a lot of AAAA young relievers with team control, and although Hoby Milner somehow ended up turning into maybe the best LH reliever in the league last year, not many of the others have really turned into anything we're really missing out on. Packy Naughton, Oliver Ortega, and Austin Warren would be the main guys I'm thinking of.
Before Herget, all those AAAA young reliever castoffs were Eppler guys, so you kind of figure a new regime would shake things up anyways.
Herget might represent the first and only young and team controlled reliever found by Perry who had legitimate success in the majors, stayed in the system for multiple years, and ended up getting DFA'd. Jacob Webb was another nice find by Perry and a regrettable DFA, but Webb unlike Herget was only with the organization for a couple months so maybe Perry just didn't have enough time to see his potential.
Recent memory of Herget, also formerly doing business as "The Slim Reaper", is less favorable since 2023 when he got nuked for a 2.17 HR/9 and 4.66 ERA. But in 2021 and 2022, Herget had outstanding peripherals, and in 2022 he was the best reliever in the organization with a 2.48 ERA. He also has least 3 more years of team control and 1 option.
So to me at least, this Herget thing is the first time we can fairly see an entire lifecycle and evaluate Perry's ability to find a young and team controlled reliever, squeeze juice out of them for good production, and then appropriately know when to move on.
Will be interesting to see what happens. It is absolutely unconventional to DFA a pitcher who has had significant recent MLB success and team control while there are several pitchers on the 40 man with either no team control, or no proven MLB success.
Either way, I'm rooting for the Slim Jim and those goggles in his future endeavors.

Some odd phrasing in a few places here.  First, he can fuck right off for even hinting that any Angels fans are "front runners."  We've got a decade of losing and we're still here for some dumb reason.
Also, I think it's kind of funny that he just outright says, "I know we may not have the best personnel in the world."  Lol.

    Exactly right!
    Angels offense B
    Defense  C+
    Pitching D+
We need a number 1 starter. We have 3 number 4s and 3 number 5s. Can't make playoffs with our pitching staff. We could clean up the defense and hit a little better (Trout finds it) but it won't matter without acquiring SP.

This team is not undisciplined, it is inexperienced.  Key young players here with little minor league experience.  They are trying to learn on the go, and the coaching staff is appropriate for the job.  I think many of you are used to seeing free agents filter in to the team over the years.  Unfortunately many of those guys failed.  We have not even finished the first month of a six month season.  Many of you wanted to rebuild, this is what happens as you do so.  Mistakes are going to happen.

Chico reacted to AngelsWin.com in OC Register: A look at the 175-year history of baseball uniforms
Baseball uniforms have been around 175 years and have undergone some changes. The new version has not been a hit with fans and players, but the league is working its way out of a jam.
The uniforms might be new but they’ve been a long time in the making. Major League Baseball says it’s been six years since the league began working on these uniform changes, gathering input from clubs and players as they looked to optimize the outfits for the best performance possible.
MLB and Nike teamed up in 2019 on a 10-year deal, with the apparel company taking over for Majestic Athletic, which had been making jerseys for the league since 1982.
    Pampers or Huggies?
But the pants are the issue. Many players complained that when they wear white tops and white pants, the tucked-in jersey can look like a diaper because the pants are relatively see-through.
Getty ImagesA cropped photo of Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes in spring training shows the sheer material of the new uniforms some players are unhappy with. The plus side
MLB officials say these uniforms improve mobility by providing 25% more stretch and also will dry 28% faster. Nike says they incorporate more recycled material than past uniforms, lowering emissions from manufacturing.
    What’s next?
One potential solution is that players could wear last year’s pants until the problems are solved. No decision has been made by the league.
    Subtle differences
Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch, a blog dedicated to uniform design, described the 2024 changes: “Stretchier fabric, changing home jerseys from white to a subtle off-white, narrowing the placket (the vertical strip on the front of the shirt upon which the buttons sit), altering the belt loops, moving the MLB logo down on the back of the jersey and reducing the size of the last-name lettering.” Smaller lettering has fans complaining and players perplexed the most.

    What they cost
There are several price ranges for the new jerseys. The cost of what’s closest to what the players wear would buy you some very good seats to Opening Day.
Nike Vapor Premier Elite Jersey | Authentic jersey, as worn by players on the field. | $355
Nike Vapor Premier Limited Jersey | Inspired by the on-field jersey, it has an embroidered Nike Swoosh, heat-applied twill logos, a woven, heat-applied label, heat-applied sublimated twill player name and number. | $175
Nike Vapor Premier Game Jersey | Replica player jersey with silicone printed heat-transfer front logo, Nike Swoosh and silhouetted batter, screen-printed back player name and number, heat-applied labels. | For purchase soon.

Chico reacted to Duren, Duren in Angels trade Trey Cabbage to the Astros for Carlos Espinosa
The Astros are usually pretty shrewd. They have the patience to see if they can work with Cabbage to correct his flaws. A long shot for them but with potential upside.
Angels seem to have helped the bullpen if Espinoza can be consistent with his control and maintain his heat. The new pitching coach has more work to do. But another low key tweak by Perry.
