I figured for sure Scioscia would bench him today after his fine performance yesterday. 

Agreed on locking up Simmons. I would also be in favor of signing Maldonado to a extension in the off-season.

I guess I'm in the minority,  but I'm actually happy to hear this about Pujols and am optimistic he can have as good of a season as last year,  which would make me very happy.

I feel very fortunate to have watched Jered Weaver's entire career with the Angels as the ace of the pitching rotation.
I remember him when he was called up replacing his brother Jeff on the roster, his tenacity and his leadership throughout.
He had many great seasons 2011 & 2012 CYA contender years and a solid 2014 resulting in the postseason.
I can still visualize his pickoff move in Game 1 of the 2014 ALDS ( best that I have ever seen trying to control the KC running game ).
Sad to not be seeing him as an Angel in 2017 but I will catch him on the Padres as # 27 which proves that he will always in his heart be an Angel.  

He'll always be one of my favorite Angels pitchers, up there with Ryan, Finley, Abbot, and McCaskill,

What this also shows is just how special Trout really is, how consistently good he is, and also what a great teammate and human being he is. He's a rarity. If it were basketball he'd have to be a Spur.

Love him all you like - it's a free country, for now anyway - but Scioscia hasn't shown a high regard for the analytics in the past just for stubbornly micromanaging to his own ideas.

I think you're giving Scioscia too much credit for knowing that actual split. And clearly it didn't make much difference as three right handers took him deep while only Ortega hit him as a lefty. 

Yeah what a brilliant plan by Scioscia to bring in Pennington and Choi. I'm sure that move alone meant the difference between winning and losing last night and will mean wins down the road as Cron and Gia git that ever needed momentum boosting restful platoon. It's this stubborn commitment to his ideals of only lefties can hit against righties that separates Scioscia into the stratosphere above the other good managers. If only there were room on the roster to platoon Trout, Escobar, and Simmons with lefties because surely these righties can't hit righties.
