This is heartbreaking. Lou’s been the best Angels forum presence since we started out on the ESPN boards. The intensity of how much I hate cancer is met by that of how much I appreciate Lou and his contributions.
He’s a really good dude and, more importantly: NOT A TROJAN.
I’m praying for you, @Lou. Love you, man.

It crushingly pains me to write this to you all but I've been given his blessing to share that our good friend that we've all known as @Lou (and IEBRUIN) has battling cancer for a while now, but it has taken a turn for the worse so he has been placed into hospice care.
His days left on this earth may be few according to doctors, so please join me in filling this thread with as much love, memories and kind words that you can pass along to Lou and his family who may be reading this.
It goes without saying, that Lou, who has been on AngelsWin.com for nearly two decades has been the top contributor and supporter, but even more so a dear friend.

While I've known for sometime now and have been praying for a cure for his cancer, sometimes the answer in prayer is NO because God has a better plan, and maybe he just wants Lou (who is a believer) home to be with him in eternity.
I would also like to add that I've grown to know @WicketMaiden more through our private messaging here, and he's been an amazing friend to Lou throughout his entire battle. Wicket got Lou into Cricket over a year ago and while Lou was in the hospital over the past several weeks they would watch the games together and comment during the games as a healthy distraction.
Please join me in sending as much prayer for strength, peace & comfort and love to Lou as you can. 🙏

I think this is my 19th season using mlb.tv, which is bananas. It became useable just at the right time for me.
I think I used Extra Innings as well for a season or two around 2007, though.

I saw it in one of the dolby theaters. I thought about 70mm but the one in Nashville had literally zero opens seats for days. Hope I don't regret that, since true 70mm is so rare.
Dolby was good enough for me though. Definitely felt the rumble when the bomb went off.

Nolan hit it out of the park again with Oppenheimer.
It's basically just a pure dialog movie. So some might find it boring, but the dialog is so fucking good.

I appreciated that it took all of the technology out of the protagonist’s hands. Of course, there’s just about nothing that they can’t do anyway by franchise definition, but that was a good pivot.
McQuarrie is just a really solid film maker. That train scene was straight up awesome. Yes, you could see CGI in it, but it was brilliantly executed.

Man, he was the best. Honestly, I only think 2 (maybe 1) of those jokes wouldn’t have made it today as is, and one of them I don’t think would have made it would only have to be changed slightly.

This one was awesome. The last four of these have been great. I could do without 2 and 3, but this franchise is where it’s at for action films. The car chase did go on too long, but I laughed at the donuts in the Fiat. It seemed they went for more laughs this time around.

Not a movie I'd go see for sure.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, part 1
saw it last night with my brother. fantastic action movie. if you've been a fan of the series, then you'll enjoy this one.
they introduce a new character played by hayley atwell, and she doesn't disappoint. she played agent carter in the captain america movie so she'll look familiar. she adds a new and interesting dimension to the series.
there's a typical car chase that goes on a bit too long, but i don't think there was anything else that disappointed.

I loved it. They almost lost me with the third act, but this movie kicked ass. They didn’t try to reinvent the wheel or anything here and that was the right choice. It’s basically one long chase, which was perfect. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was great and her character had so much more potential as a successor to Indy than Shia LeBouf’s. With that said, I don’t think they should continue and they certainly don’t seem to try to make it set in stone like they did at the end of Crystal Skull.
I honestly don’t understand the critical reaction to this film, just like I didn’t understand the critical reaction to The Little Mermaid. Like that one, the audience scores for Indy are more in line with most filmgoers’ experience. This movie hits just the note it needs to. Speaking of notes, you gotta love John Williams.

RallyMo reacted to Angelsjunky in Angels History in one chart
Y'all know I like my charts. Well, I think I've created one that really illustrates Angels history as a whole.

What you're looking at is Angels history, from 1961 to 2023 (through tonight's game, though you can barely see it...forgive the tiny size of the cells...wasn't sure how best to depict this in a way that was translateable).
Anyhow, the bars are seasons - purple is losing, green is winning -- each is as many cells as games above or below .500 (there are a couple .500 seasons which you can't really see that are blue). The gray line near the top is .500. Every time the team has a losing season, they go further below .500, every time they have a winning season they go up.
As you can see, the Angels historical trajectory was rather clear for the first four decades. There were a few minor winning seasons early on, and then a period in the late 70s to late 80s where they basically alternated good and bad years (more or less). Then the 90s were a return to the form of the 60s and 70s.
Finally, 2002, and then 2004-09, and then 2011-15 happened, and the Angels "peaked"--in terms of franchise games above .500--after the 2015 season.
It has been downhill from there. As a franchise, the Angels went above .500 in 2014, then slipped below again in 2019.
So that's where we are, and where we've been.

Started watching Silo after seeing others here mention it. Really good show. Good story, well-paced, good acting for the most part. My only real complaint (and it's a fairly minor one) is that the main character's (Juliette) accent is all over the place. Like it somehow seems different in every scene.
