How about Bridwell, Hermosillo, Cron, and Perez?   Pitchers with Barria's make up and potential should not be dealt away.   Pitching is a huge commodity.
Then trade Calhoun to fill another need (late innings reliever or starting pitching depth)?

I feel like I am definitely in the minority, Frank having Donnelly's glove checked was smart; Scioscia having the National's pitcher glove's strings trimmed was lame.

In my mind, the Angels need a big game pitcher who can match up with any other big game pitcher.  Any team's #1 in my mind simply represents the best pitcher the team has, nothing more.  The defense that Eppler has assembled should improve any pitcher's ability to keep the Angels in the game.

I am not sure that Fernandez would need to "tear it up" in spring training to take Cron's or Valbuena's roster spot.  Being a decent defender and a consistent hitter should be enough.  The replacement threshold is pretty low for Cron and Valbuena.
