I assume Doug White is like a manager at Walmart working 80 hours a week training new employees after 3 of them quit and 1 died. The new employees have severe learning and physical disabilities and one of them keeps going to the snack machine every 10 minutes. He's dead on the inside and wishes he was at Target.

But would Jordan Lyles make this team a WC competitor?
I don't get it personally. I am totally on board with the frustrations, and throwing some shade at Arte and Eppler is understandable. But the ONLY way this team becomes a legit WC contender at the trade deadline is if we got Greinke, and Bauer. You see what those guys cost, right? We literally didn't have the assets to do that and if we did it would have completely destroyed our farm system (Bye bye Adell and Marsh, and also Bye bye Cole next year).
So trading assets for a pitcher to keep us afloat to maybe finish with 83-85 wins doesn't really make sense to me. Neither does completely destroying our already depleted farm system to MAYBE win the 2nd wildcard spot.
Also, pitchers like Robbie Ray might still be available in the off-season, and they won't cost as much because there isn't a huge demand like there is at the deadline.
I think the Angels can compete with Ohtani coming back, a pitcher like Cole fronting the rotation, and a solid number 3 starter to replace Skaggs. That's a tall order but it's what needs to happen. Arte needs to open up his wallet and go all out to try to get Gerrit Cole, not to mention another pitcher like Bumgarner or Odorizzi. Eppler has his work cut out for him. Let's just say if they fail to bring in legit starters this off-season, then I'll be as pissed as you guys are. No more excuses.

Getting Cole and a durable #3/#4 in here would do wonders for the others.
Less pressure on them, and someone to lead them by example
It’s as simple as that.
They have enough depth after them with 6-7 different guys in Ohtani, Canning, Heaney, Sandoval, Suarez, Barria, and assuming being healthy by ST, Pena.

As others have already said... W/L records are not what minor league systems are for unless you are one of those people that believes a part of development is learning how to win.. I know that's something that's thrown out there a lot when a young team falls short, and there is no denying that experience is a huge factor, the reality is it's just experience and reps.
As far as reasons why? There are likely a ton..
-- They are still trying to build minor league depth -- they didn't have the organizational players in place most teams with healthy farm systems have. It's those older types that often do a lot of the heavy lifting.
-- They have been aggressive promoting their prospects
-- The churn at the very top has caused a chain reaction through the entire system
-- They have been pretty aggressively doing complete tear downs of pitching and hitting mechanics when guys first come into the system.
If someone needed ONE solitary reason why the Angels farm system in 2019 doesnt have a winning record then I'd say it's because of this... http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=ana
Take a look at that top 10...
Even better -- take a look at the minor league rosters and performances for our entire farm system in 2015
Rookie Ball (AZL) https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=da5e5c61
Rookie Ball Orem https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=e71c6646
Low A Burlington https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=7f93f95f
High A -- Empire https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=1e9dc26e
AA - Arkansas https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=dbce1a47
AAA - Salt Lake - https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=0303790e
When people here talk about the job Eppler has done to try to rebuild this team -- they really don't seem to understand how much work needed to be done from the bottom up. But look at those rosters, and ask yourselves if you have ever seen an uglier more barren system top to bottom than that one.
The Angels had a system wide problem, not a bad MLB team problem...

F'n Eppler should have traded Lucroy to the Cubs knowing they would need a catcher after the deadline. If he was a good GM he would have.
