Padres gave up four pitchers to make the deal work.  
This is essentially what we gave up to get bundy except take away one of the pitching prospects and add Barria or Suarez and Jackson or Paris.  
If we're being optimistic for the Pirates, they essentially got maybe one 50 grade prospect in this deal and that's a stretch for Hudson Head who is probably a 45 and maybe a 45+.  
Bednar is a 40, Cruz is a 35 or 35+, Fellows isn't even on the radar.  Lucchesi was arguably the most valuable player in the deal and the pirates gave him up for a rookie ball catcher. 
this was a pretty sad return for the pirates in my opinion and a shame we weren't in on it 
 
 

Best bet is for C-Rod to become the Halos answer to Castillo, and Detmers to become the Halos answer to Gray.

When you look closely at the dollars, Musgrove makes all the more sense. His salary is low enough that it would still leave enough money to sign almost any starter (and if that starter isn’t Bauer, then a reliever too). Few other good pitchers are available for such a low pay commitment.

A friend who keeps up with MLB in total mentioned that 4 years/$128 million with a team option that includes $8 million buyout was as far as they would go.

If the Angels can't/won't pay Bauer, I think they should look (and are looking) into Gray and Musgrove. If they can acquire one of those guys for an acceptable cost, they could theoretically have the funds for Realmuto and a last minute depth starter. If the price is too steep, you've got Tanaka, Odorizzi, Richards, Kluber, Paxton.
But when I think of the organization long-term, I'd certainly look into Contreras, but in the end wouldn't want to give up Marsh. I'd rather go with a solid free agent catcher like Castro or Avila and keep Marsh.

The other thing with regards to giving Realmuto a ton of $$$ is that catchers his age start to see some wear and tear physically when they approach age 30 and was the Max Stassi offensive breakout in 2020 for real or a one hit wonder?
You would hate to give all that money to Realmuto when Stassi turned the corner offensively.
