Wouldn't it be something else if Jones turned out to be a better ballplayer than David Fletcher.

Former Angels farmhand Jones with a nice debut for his new club.
Jahmai Jones, Triple-A Norfolk — Jones, who was acquired from the Angels in a February trade for righthander Alex Cobb, hit a two-run home run, tripled twice, scored twice and drove in three runs in a loss to Jacksonville. The 23-year-old second baseman has four hits through two games, all extra-base knocks.

There are two players that if they reach their potential or their hype would make a world of difference in our minor leagues, Adams and Maitan.  Obviously pitching would be better, but who in our minors on the mound have that much hype, maybe Detmers?

lol i guess so -- just a flesh wound.
Seriously though, the last 10 years of Angels BB has turned me into such a cynical, negative fan.  I used to be annoyingly positive.  Every prospect could potentially be great and the next Frank Tanana, Wally Joyner, Finley, Salmon, etc.  Horrible season -- doesn't matter because the next season we start in 1st place and it'll be our year.  Maybe we had too much success during the 2002-2009 period and it's ruined things lol.

    Players to watch
A Ball Inland Empire - Jack Kochanowicz, Adam Seminaris, John Swanda, Jose Bonilla, Jeremiah Jackson, Kyren Paris, Jose Reyes and Erik Rivera
According to one scout not affiliated with the Angels, Kochanowicz would've gone 1-1 in three years had he not signed with the Angels out of high school.  Who could blame him though?  The Angels offered a GIGANTIC over-slot bonus.  Seminaris has So-Cal roots and should have a very short developmental curve in the minors.  He could be major league ready by the end of next year.  Swanda has great stuff on the mound and plus athleticism.  Jose Bonilla is a Dominican bonus-baby and is ready for A ball at age 19.  He's at least a year or two ahead of the curve.  Jeremiah Jackson set the Pioneer League record for homeruns in its final year of existence.  It wasn't done by some muscle-bound DH, it was done by a wiry SS with a lightning fast bat.  Kyren Paris literally does everything on the baseball field the way that you would hope.  He's also only 19, and projects to be a good starting infielder at the major league level, likely by the time he's 22.  Jose Reyes has a blend of power and speed that makes him stand out among other professionals.  Erik Rivera is listed as an OF, but he was drafted as a two-way player from Puerto Rico, and evidently has a very exciting future on the mound, hitting the mid-90's with some regularity.  At the plate, he has big time power.  Don't know much about the rest of his game.
Advanced A Tri-City - Davis Daniel, Robinson Pina, Hector Yan, Adrian Rondon and Jordyn Adams
Davis Daniel had a legitimate shot at being drafted in the first round before needing Tommy John surgery.  He's still technically rehabbing but is evidently far enough along to pitch in games.  He's likely ticketed for the bullpen, which could make him major league ready by the end of the year if the Angels are being aggressive with him.  Pina has big time deceptiveness and strikeout numbers.  He has a bit of Jekyll-Hyde to him, but more good than bad.  Considerably promise.  Hector Yan is a lefty that sat in the mid-90's before 2020.  He came to camp and topped out around 91-92 which was concerning.  Rumor has it he's back up to 95.  He'll likely start, but his future has to be in the bullpen, if he can maintain that velocity.  He'd be similar to Tony Watson in the pen, with a little more velo and less control.  Rondon is a former top international prospect.  The Angels got him for pennies on the dollar from the Rays and he's proven along the way that he can hit.  Now he needs to prove that he can do it consistently, and play defense, and know the difference between a ball and a strike.  Jordyn Adams is likely the best athlete in minor league baseball.  Worst case scenario, he can turn into a Billy Hamilton type of reserve in the majors.  Best case scenario, 20+ HR, 20+ SB and a gold glove in the outfield.
AA Rocket City - Denny Brady, Reid Detmers, Packy Naughton, Oliver Ortega, Orlando Martinez
Denny Brady has a future in a major league bullpen.  Reid Detmers could probably step into a major league rotation and sufficiently pitch as a back end starter right now.  The Angels already have a few of those, so promoting him right now likely doesn't solve the Angels pitching problems any better than Jaime Barria or Patrick Sandoval can.  But if Detmers develops from facing top competition, then he could likely be ready to fill in as a mid rotation starter later this year or early next year.  Packy Naughton spots his pitches well beyond his years and seems to always have the right sequence.  I don't know if it's him or catching or management, but something he's done is going right.  He has a future in the back end of a rotation as well.  Oliver Ortega will likely pitch out of the rotation, but his future is in the bullpen, where his mid-90's fastball may climb into the upper-90's.  Orlando Martinez is a 4th outfielder that may have developed some unforeseen power last year, making him interesting.
AAA Salt Lake - Jamie Barria, Patrick Sandoval, Jose Suarez, Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh, Matt Thaiss, Luis Rengifo.
There won't be much I can say that many of you don't already know so we'll keep it brief.  Barria likely has a future as a #4/5 starter in the majors.  Sandoval has better stuff than a back end pitcher, but has trouble maintaining it, so he could be a relief weapon if starting doesn't work out.  Suarez velocity fluctuates, but at his best, he can throw mid-90's  with movement from the left side.  Possible future reliever.  Jo Adell can hit the ball a long way, and is athletic, and very bad at defense.  But someday, he may hit the ball even further, and impact the game on the basepaths and translate some of that athleticism onto defense.  If he does that, he'll be a star.  At his ceiling, Brandon Marsh could be 30+ HR's, 20-ish SB, great OBP and great defense.  And he's not far off from this outcome.  But he's not done developing yet.  He may be major league ready by the all-star break, but I think he'll be ready to succeed as a major leaguer next year.  Matt Thaiss can hit the ball and play a few positions, but so far, doesn't do either well enough to be a major league regular.  But there's a distinct possibility he will in the next year or two.  Rengifo is in the same boat.

Arte’s FA signing disappointments (Rendon possibly the ONLY one to work out, health permitting) is why he should acquire no more big money FAs or trade acquisitions.
Focus on re-signing the best of the ones developed here.  The org knows a lot more about how they tick and handle playing here.
It’s worked for the Cardinals since the onset of FA (3 WS titles, 2 other appearances, and few if any bad seasons).   They have never signed a big money FA.   Matt Holliday re-signed with them after being acquired.
