BTH got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Why isn't Jo Adell getting more playing time?
The last thing I’m worried about is getting guys playing time.
If Adell is healthy the entire season and only has 200 PAs or whatever at season end, then we can talk.
Guys will get injured or struggle, and everyone will get plenty of playing time.

Seriously.
if the Angels get through the season and a healthy Jo Adell has been on the bench the whole time that would mean everyone else is healthy and performing well, which would be a problem the Angels haven’t had lately.

Game nine of the season, and Adell has only started two or three of them.
In the limited ABs he's had, he's look solid and like someone who could be ready to break out. His ceiling is way too high to ride the bench 75% of the time.
What gives? With the likes of Hicks, Sano, and Moniak getting more starts than Adell, you have to wonder if there's something else going on.

BTH reacted to Inside Pitch in OC Register: Angels’ Mike Trout hoping to steal ’20-plus’ bases this year
14.3% barrel rate in a tiny sample size, would be a career high. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/anthony-rendon-543685?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
That barrel rate is going to come down hard but you'd hope the balls start falling in too.

I’m not a big fan of looking at stats with a 6-game sample.

Yup.
Your eyes were better from the 400 level than the guy who was standing right next to the batter or the guy 90 feet from the batter.

Holy crap guys, that was barely a 5 minute casual read. Try and expand your attention span past the character limit of a tweet.

The org seems to be really high on Sam Brown.
Didn’t play any games after getting drafted last year, got a fair number of games in Spring Training, and now is in AA hitting cleanup.
Kinda reminds me of Tucker Flint, but even he played some A ball the season prior.

It’s just early season conversation. I’m not putting definitives on anything. Just posted that I thought it was interesting

BTH got a reaction from Dave Saltzer in The Official 2024 Draft Thread
We’ll see how things evolve the next couple months, but right now it seems like the Angels are positioned to land one of the following players:
Charlie Condon (OF)
Travis Bazzana (2B)
JJ Wetherholt (2B)
Tanner Burns (RHP)
Hagen Smith (LHP)
Braden Montgomery (OF)
Jac Caglianone (1B/LHP)
Nick Kurtz (1B)
I’d be ecstatic to land any of them, as we sit here today.

I've been following this draft since the top draft list was posted. From what I've gather and heard, this is draft that's going to be heavy with college hitter, while being weak on the pitching sides and teenagers.
The top 3 potential hitters that could go 1.1 are; Condon, Bazzana, and Wetherholt.
The top pitchers that could go 1.1 are Burns and Smith
For me personally My pick is Braden Montogomery, he has ranged between 6 to 9 in most mock draft. He is a switch-hitting outfielder with plus-plus power and an 80-grade arm that can potentially be a middle of the order bat.
Baseball American released their first mock draft, and they have us selecting Jonathan Santucci, LHP. Which I'm not a fan of.

This.
We will have a shot at a good hitter or pitcher with our first pick, as Condon and others rise (if you want unreal numbers, check out Condon).
With his hamstrinf injury I think that JJ Wetherholt could fall to us, and be a greet lefthanded 2B to round out our young core.
I've started another thread to just focus on the draft.

BTH reacted to Inside Pitch in OC Register: Angels’ Anthony Rendon ‘loves’ the opportunity to hit leadoff
I went to the game yesterday, he looks about 10-15+ pounds lighter than in the past. Also, not sure if it's because of the time he missed in ST and his timing is off still but he looked better swinging with each at bat. I came home to check the actual predictive stuff and his exit velocities increased as the night went on -- he's sitting at 88 MPH on the season now. Still want to see it get to his career norms but at least it's not sitting at 83 like it was after the first two games.
Also there is this from yesterday's game
And this...
He's had four at bats where the expected batting average was .470 or higher the last two games. So there are at least signs of life there, hopefully.
Personally since he's not walking a lot he's probably better served at the bottom of the lineup than the top, even if he is seeing a ton of pitches. His swing data is actually arguing that he's taking too many pitches and not swinging enough. His swings at pitches in the zone are down but his contacts rates are in line with his career norms, so leading off may be working against him. Hopefully getting as many at bats as possible will help if it's a timing thing.
Also, being able to see directly into the Angels dugout, Rendon was one of the more animated guys in there, he was constantly up and hyping others --ditto Adell. So for those of you that have convinced yourself he's an awful teammate -- it didn't look like it from the way the other players interacted with him.
I really hope Adell breaks through this year.

BTH reacted to Inside Pitch in AngelsWin Today: Five Take-Aways From Los Angeles Angels GM Perry Minasian’s 2024 Chalk-Talk
NP!
It really was a crazy sequence of events. Stoneman, steps aside in 07, Daniel gets popped in 09 and the infusion of LA talent that had been PUMPING completely stops. Then followed up one of the greatest drafts in MLB history in 2009, with one of the worst ever in 2010 and then Dipoto comes in after the 2011 season and gets rid of everyone that had basically built one of the best scouting departments in MLB. The Yankees and Red Sox wasted no time hoovering most of the people the Angels let go, most notably Abe Flores goes to the NYY, Eddie Bane and Tom Kotchman go to Boston but all told more than 30 former AngelS front office people went to those two teams..
They may have been able to weather the situation better had the purge not happened but all of those things in such quick succession between 08 and the end of 2011 ... RIP.

Man Tri-Cities really sucks. They need to find another High-A level affiliate.
Though I do have some good news that I came across a couple weeks back from the folks there that they will be announcing later this week.
