angelsnationtalk replied to Vlad27Trout27's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
This all depends if we are buyers or sellers. And by sellers i mean trading Watson and that's it. -

Perry's Off-Season Report Card

TIme to look at this again 2 months after.... Overal grade right now stands at a C- -
Mets trading for Upton is a pipe dream.... but for the sake of AW.... Let's entertain this *side note* He's a leadoff hitter now so there's added value With Trout out for another month it become extremely problematic for them to also deal Upton. In order for this to happen we'd have to see both of these: 1: Angels need to hit another severe losing streak when things get grim and they toss in the towel. 2: Jo Adell AND Brandon Marsh tear AAA up to force the call-up. It's gotta be with both. If the Angels even get lucky by finding a team wanting Upton then they'd have to eat some serious cash on the deal. He's owed $28M next year so any return for the Angels would only be in form of salary relief. Not to mention Upton needs to waive his NTC... I'd do it in a heartbeat...... But good luck finding anyone who wants him and that amount of $.... Then again, the Angels released Pujols so stranger things have happened.

It's been no secret that Arte will spend money on free agents. Just look at the past with Pujols, Wilson, Hunter, Vladdy, Upton (kinda) and Rendon. The issue is the amount of finances going towards starting pitching which the Angels have lacked over the years. The two main biscuits of recent years were Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer. Sure, the risk of paying so much money to those guys who only pitch every 5th day is risky, but at some point a risk has to be made. After all, it's already risky signing free agents on the wrong side of 30 which Arte didn't mind. 2021 ERA- Cole: 1.81 Bauer: 1.98 So..... They've been worth every damn penny. What worries me is if we will finally see Arte spend cash on a free agent pitcher this offseason (imagine). And the top guys (Kershaw, Verlander, Scherzer, Lynn, Greinke) will be 34+ years old....

Honestly i'm tired of all the pitching ideas because I have no idea what to do anymore. Fire sale? Sure, but don't count on highly valuable returns. Tank for a top draft pick? Good luck telling Trout that. Start 2022 with another round of 1yr deals with hopeful improvement? Watch the movie Groundhogs Day. It's the same shit year after year with this team. To me, it doesn't matter who the GM is. The result has been the same and my gut is now telling me it's direction coming from Arte and John at the top. Until they GTFO or change their spending habits, nothing will change.

This team is not very fun.

Trevor Bauer has a 1.98 ERA through 63.2 IP...... Angels never made a move for him and rather got Cobb and Quintana.... Yes, Bauer wanted WAYYYYY too much.... But so far, he's been earning it.... -

Totally agree with this post. I'm a die-hard Angels fan. As most of us are that are on AW. I think we become more frustrated with this team because we want to see them do well and play in the playoffs. I'm on the same page.... I love you, Angels, but get your S*** together. For the sake of our well-being.

Sorry but La Russa is a piece of S*** These guys get paid MILLIONS of dollars to play 9 innings.... Not 5, not 6...... NINE INNINGS. Also, if he (or any other team) is worried about that being disrespectful, then DON'T disrespect the game by having a position player pitch. Hell, implement a mercy rule....... stupid B****

This was probably already said, but if you're going to put Ohtani in RF why don't you just leave him there the rest of the game? You've already lost Trout's bat. Angels can't really afford to lose his too. Taking him out of the lineup completely changes the way their pitching attacks the #1,2,3 hitters.

Move to Vegas and rename the team Las Vegas Aces and they've got something going.

Name starters you conclusively want here next year
angelsnationtalk replied to Dtwncbad's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Ones we currently have? Ohtani, C-Rod, MAYBE Detmers. Everyone else should be gone. Free Agent wise..... MAYBE Thor? Rodon? All other top arms are in their 30's....... Need to make some trades. -
This is a for what it's worth post. Just showing game totals in certain situations. Games played: 41 Pitching has given up 4 or more runs: 28 games Pitching has given up 5 or more runs: 23 games Offense has scored 4 or more runs: 24 games Offense has scored 5 or more runs: 16 games Pitching has given up 5 or more runs in more than half of our games this year. Collectively, they have an MLB worst 5.28 ERA. How are we feeling about the annual 1 year pickups so far?

You're right, he is struggling now. But this isn't the first time he's gone through this. Plus, out of anyone on the team, I'm the least worried with him. He will come out of it just fine. Does the timing suck? Yeah it does since pitching isn't click either. But he could suddenly be back to normal tonight and it's all good.

Joe Maddon's bullpen/pitching management
angelsnationtalk replied to tdawg87's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
At the end of the day we are looking for wins. Just how anyone is. I'm guilty for this too by blaming more for failure. But even if the bullpen shuts it down I would still have scratched my head as to why Quintana got the early hook. 74 pitches through 4.1 innings isn't being overworked. Dude was looking for his first win while facing the top of the lineup that he fooled all game. To me, that approach had Brad Ausmus (terrified to face to order a third time) written all over it. Let Quintana finish the 5th to earn the win. Our starting rotation needs those chances. -

Doesn't seem like the first time i've heard this..... But I agree 100% -
Come on.... Everyone has the potential for their BA to change drastically when the season is young. He's still batting .333 and leads the AL in OPS, SLG and OBP. He's fine.
