I think this outlines pretty well why some people are upset about this now:

IheartLA got a reaction from BTH in Angels remain over luxury tax, but Minasian says it will not impact 2024 spending
Everyone said ignore arte’s true cheapskate motives and look at the end result of better draft picks, more cap space next year, etc. Well looks like the end result is now we just saved a little bit of money and didn’t improve the future. So in the end arte just saves a little money, not as much as he wanted but we didn’t get the goodies at the end of the rainbow everyone here promised. So once again screw arte for pulling this in the first place.

It may be both, but anyone who thinks this trade deadline isn't a major black mark against Minasian, well, I have a Bridge to sell you.

This didn't come from the GM office. This came from Arte, and Perry is doing what he is told. Hoping to keep his job. I doubt it will happen.

That would be nice if those were the reasons they were doing it. But it’s not. Arte doesn’t want to pay the tax this year and is pulling this stunt. There is no forward thinking plan to go over the tax in future years, it was a one time Ohtani’s last dance go for it moment for Arte and now that’s it’s over he’s being classic Arte in how cheap he is just like in years past when he didn’t want to pay $500k appearance bonuses, cut travel expenses, plus so many other examples from former players/employees that it isn’t trolling Arte really is a cheap bastard.

Anyone who thinks this is a good move....
Nevin is most certainly getting fired and Perry is probably getting pushed out the door as well.
@swordsman78 and other Jock Swingers...Face reality. Your guys suck at their jobs. Time for a complete overhaul.

You all know that I have defended Anthony Rendon and even Arte Moreno in the past here, so this isn't coming from one of the known haters here.
I spoke to someone who has knowledge of Anthony Rendon behind the scenes and was told that the guy has one of the worst attitudes in MLB, and that he hates baseball in general now -- that he would love to quit, but realizes his contract is too good to walk away from, so the thought is that he will continue to milk this as long as he can.
As a side note, I was also told that Arte Moreno is known as the Jerry Jones of MLB. I mean that probably doesn't surprise many here, but thought I'd pass that along.

I haven't seen baseball this bad from the Angels in quite a while.  And, as far as Velasquez goes, if he is making mental errors, his skillset isn't good enough to keep him in the big leagues over Fletcher, or Rengifo for that matter.
Injuries are dictating a lot of these moves, we are without our leadoff hitter, (Ward), our two hitter, (Trout), and our cleanup hitter, (Rendon).  Also, our best Catcher, (O'hoppe).  Most teams would struggle if they lost 4 of their 9 starting players.

This is all talk. He knows he's out as Manager and probably will not get another chance to manage for a long time, if ever, and his own frustrations with his impending fate is boiling over.  Fake urgency. Where was this when the Angels were up 8-3 on the Royals to only lose when the Royals scored 7 runs in the last three innings while he went along/decided on bullpen management being more important than preventing a disastrous precedent of losing large leads? The Angels have coughed up more 3+ run leads and allowed more 10+ run losses to an opposing team than I can ever remember in any previous season.  Where was the blowup during multiple fundamental errors over the course of the season? Where was the response to being bullied in Toronto? He's the one that's full of horseshit, and the players know it.

IheartLA reacted to stpat373 in Sad News about Our Brother Lou (iebruin)
My name it's Patrick (known as PJ) to my brother Lou. My family and I have been following this since it was first posted and even created accounts. Most know by now that Lou passed peacefully in his sleep on August 8th at approximately 5pm while The Ocho was on TV (c'mon, you know he loved all sports even the weird ones, like Cricket). He constantly bragged about AngelsWin, all the fun times he had here and the trips to watch The Halos play, home and away with you guys. You all were his extended family and loved every minute he spent on here. To see him spend his last several days reading your posts and thoughts about him brought a smile (and tears) to his face, as it did his brothers and sister. All of us have also been keeping up with this post and you will never know how much we appreciate the love, memories, thoughts and especially the pictures you have shared. Our greatest memory with him was being in the front row at the left field foul pole for the Angels 2002 World Series win. All of us hugging and crying tears of joy at the site we thought we would never see. Close 2nd was Barry Bonds flipping us off during the game because Lou kept leading our entire section in a "sterrrroooooids!" chant while we were jamming a Thunderstick into our arms. Honor him by keeping his memory and stories alive. Celebrate his life. "LouDogg" was a smartass until the end and continued to make us laugh until his last breath.
    Sincerely,
