Fish Oil reacted to Second Base in Is JeDi having a meltdown?
I doubt Dipoto is losing it. He was under a ton of pressure here after spending on Pujols, Wilson and Hamilton as well as the emergence of Trout. Dipoto kept his cool when the team underperformed. The only time he made a rash decision is when the management stopped using his shifting advice. He walked and the media played it off like it was Scioscia and Moreno's fault.
My guess is, this is fan fiction. The fans have every reason to be pissed at Dipoto right now. Their payroll is inflated, their roster is aging, their farm has quickly been depleted and they haven't sniffed playoff contention in a very long time.
Not only that, the best player in Japanese history just passed on the team with Japanese ownership, and a long history of signing Japanese players. On top of all of that, Dipoto doubled down, then doubled down again by spending prospects and making trades to acquire more international money.
Now he's got a ton of international money, no elite prospects to spend it on, no Ohtani, no prospects, a new young 1B that has a.301 OBP, and a 2B that isn't thrilled about moving to CF, an experiment that could sink the team in 2018.
So yeah, fans are mad. They're beginning to see why Angel fans are quite happy he's gone.

Pretty bold! I'll be curious to see if last year's breakout is sustainable. He'd been trending in that direction and his swing has changed in the way he explained. Obviously Angel Stadium won't play as friendly and Cincy, but he could come close.

And maybe thats all hes ever going to be. But, the f*ckup on our end is that a grichuk or a trumbo for less than a million is still a way better value than anything weve had since the trade, before upton.
If say we dont make that trade, grichuk with those numbers for less than a million is still a lot better than what we got out of david robinson. And nava. And victorino. And joyce.
Grichuk hasnt broken out, maybe never does, and now with upton its a closed chapter. But its one of those moves that we bit us in the ass later. Grichuk and cash left over in to sign a better than salas reliever is better than victorino (and company) plus salas.

Agreed. He may not turn into a superstar (but holy shit did that one year of his hurt), but at least theres still a chance he sticks somewhere. Bourjos too will probably still find a job for the next 2 or 3 years.
Freese is gone, and salas is someone you sign cheap, not trade for.

In all fairness, Grichuk is still young (he will be 26 next season), he put up an outstanding season at 23, and he maintains a positive defensive value. It's not unreasonable to think his best years may still be ahead of him.

Fish Oil reacted to T.G. in Scioscia's last year?
Regardless of what happens after this season - I will always view Scioscia as the person most responsible for transforming this organization into one of the best in baseball.  He doesn't get enough credit for transforming this organization from one that was basically an afterthought prior to 2002 to one that developed a culture of winning.  He raised expectations, elevated the bar and gave the Angels a new identity.
I will also always respect the way he guided the team through the tragic loss of Nick Adenhart.  He handled that loss and that season with such class and grace.  The way he kept the focus on Nick's family and not on the Angels was pure Sosh.  He just handled the adversity in the best possible way, IMO.
I just have a lot of respect for Scioscia the person.  Even though I don't know him personally - I admire the way he carries himself.  I admire his consistency, his loyalty and the extremely humble way he approaches everything.

If Ohtani turns into a solid 2 and the remainder of the pitching remains relatively healthy, we look like a 90+ win team. That should get us into the playoffs. Beyond that is a lot of luck.
Will we win it all? Probably not. Could we win it all? Absolutely.

I think there is something to be said for this. I wouldn't expect Britton to be as expensive as one might first think.

This just seemed like a deal that was going to happen. Moustakas makes a lot of sense now as well (assuming it gets finalized)

    CF Trout

Machado has been worth 27.9 WAR so far in his career, and he's 25 years old. He is unquestionably one of the top players in the game. How is this even a debate?
If you ain't Trout, you suck.

LOL at Dipussy, who traded his 2nd and 5th best prospects, and essentially ends up with a rock (Gordon out of position and no Ohtani) like Charlie Brown at Halloween.   Don't think too hard, Dipussy, it will hurt your medulla.

I agree 100% - the U.S. suspected Japan might attack - but thought the attack would come elsewhere, not what was very nearly a decapitation at Pearl - had the fuel bunkers been hit, had a ship sunk in the ship channel, things might've turned out much differently - Pearl would've have been useless for months,  and  without fuel, we'd have had to operate from the West Coast, Midway would never have happened, and all those front-line Japanese carriers, and all those pilots would've stayed on the board.   And Yamamoto wouldn't sit back and let us rebuild our navy; without Pearl at his back, the West Coast shipyards and naval base and oil storage would surely be bombed, merchant shipping would never survive the trip to Hawaii, so Pearl would never be re-constituted and Hawaii would eventually have been invaded and lost. - or at least the threat of such would've been used by Japan to force us into capitulation, yielding the Pacific to Japan forever.    Today, we might be sending our best players to play in the NPBL.
So, basically, we took the chance of losing the Pacific war from day 1 because we somehow knew that Japan would cancel their second strike and not destroy the 4.5m barrels of oil at Pearl?  That's beyond ludicrous.
Really, the only thing to add here is there's a pretty solid suggestion that the USSR knew either about the Pearl attack, or that *something* was coming, when Richard Sorge gave information about Japanese plans - variously, Japan was going to attack somewhere in the South Pacific, or possibly, Pearl Harbor itself, depending on who you believe.   At any rate, the information passed allowed Stalin to strip the Mongolian frontier of the modern divisions that were then used to shore up Moscow's defenses, and launch a counter-attack in front Moscow which effectively permanently ended the German advance.    Without that information, Moscow would likely have fallen.  And had Japan attacked the Soviet Union instead of the US, the world map would look far different today.

SD would defeat the purpose of him wanting 25 wins. I don't think he meant 25 wins for a career.
