  1. The WNBA team could also just change their name to the Airballs.  Then they could market the game experience as “come see airballs and broads.”

Then AirBnB steps up for naming rights to the arena. . .

Schedule as many homes games as possible on Tuesdays to promote Taco Tuesdays, etc.  Maybe get creative like the tacos come with more and more cheese as the game progresses, etc.

It all comes together logically pretty quickly.

I haven't been big on Martinez but, if it's a one year deal, that might be different. I've liked the idea of leaving the DH spot open but if you could get a proven middle of the order bat for a year, and we sign Snell, things get interesting.  What was going to be a "developmental year" becomes somewhat intriguing.

I wouldn’t want to bring in a veteran shortstop or catcher or first baseman because I want the in house young guys to play.

But I am wide open to bringing in Martinez even if that forces the Angels to sort out Adell/Moniak/Hicks.

If Moniak and Adell are clicking, then you dump Hicks.

    So what?

If JD is signed it takes away at bats from Adell and Moniak so it does interrupt seeing what young players can do. I'm against signing JD, Snell is OK because depth at starters is so thin.

I very much doubt Adell and Moniak would be regularly used as DH.  One will be a starter and the other will be the 4th OF.  You also have Hicks, so something already has to give.

    Martinez doesn’t really change that.

Don't disagree with most of what you say....but, at some point, shouldn't an agent read the market and tell his guys, "this is probably going to be the best we can do"?  Chapman turned down over 100 million from the Blue Jays last year, undoubtedly with Boras' input. Did he read the market correctly?  If Snell turned down 6/150 from the Yankees in  January, as has been reported, will he make, either in a shorter term or longer term deal, at 31, 150 million before he retires?  I just think stubborn, obnoxious and hardball playing doesn't always serve the player well.  Most times, it probably does, but flexibility is a good thing. But that's just me.

Good points but we really don’t know what has truly been offered and/or truly been turned down.  Both sides leak stuff to posture in the negotiations and we as fans have no way of knowing what’s actually real.

Three weeks to season opener, are you panicking yet Boras and 3 of Boras 5?

The 2 clients that did sign so far got only 3 year deals.

Owners haven’t given in to Boras for a pleasant change.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t automatically root against Boras or hate this guy in any way.  He is obviously kind of obnoxious and tries to play hardball, etc.

But I am glad somebody is out there playing hardball with the owners.  The reality is systemically the owners cumulatively play kind of dirty because they never, ever share any real financial data with anybody (unless you are trying to actually buy a team).

So theoretically the only way a player is going to get what is “fair” in the overall relationship is to have the toughest, most stubborn, obnoxious, hardball-playing, scheming agent out there.

The owners can hate Boras all they want, but they created an environment to assure that someone like Boras would emerge.

Until I can see real financials on teams, I am going to assume that OVERALL the owners are far more likely to be getting over on the players than the reverse.

Boras seems like kind of a dick, but the owners are definitely dicks for never coming clean on what their side of the financials actually look like, so they reap what they sow.

  6. Isn’t this site on the strip where the Tropicana was?

Maybe they should have build a ballpark attached to a hotel, where the rooms have balconies to watch the games, where room guests would effectively have their own luxury suite for the game.  They could build it in a way where a server could get to them from the ballpark side of the balcony to sell food/drinks.

It’s an opinion, and reasonable people can disagree. I’m not here to make fun or insult anyone. I’m just laying out reasons why Aces wouldn’t be a good name if the A’s had to change it. As to the relative merits of the NBA v WNBA, the NBA no longer has fundamentals or defense. Double dribbling go uncalled, and it’s just an individual shooting contest now. I’ve been a Lakers fan since the Showtime days, and it’s not nearly as interesting now as it used to be as a game. Anyway, I’ll leave it at that since this is more about how the A’s released their renderings. I’ve laid out why I think that would likely not work either in other posts.

And I am just posting comments for entertainment.

Well, we already have the back-to-back WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, who are owned by Mark Davis, and draw about 10K/game. He despises John Fisher. No way he dilutes that local name recognition. There are also the AAA Reno Aces. If OAK makes a deal where they keep the name and visual program, I don’t see Aces as the new name. Maybe something that references the old west history of the area. We used to have an AHL team called the Wranglers. All of that being said, I think there are still legitimate doubts as to the validity of this move. We shall see.

I didn’t know about the existing Aces in the WNBA.  Maybe the existing Aces could change their name to the Queens.  Sell them on the idea that a name change can generate revenue from all the loyal fans buying all new gear.  They would probably make hundreds of dollars.

No, pass Sano surprise this year.

You complain about all these years of mediocrity, and yet very consistently you seem to exclusively want to either pursue mediocre players or hope unproven players levels up to being mediocre?

It’s miserable to be mediocre but make every decision that fits a plan to be mediocre?

It’s kind of a head shaker.

the whole snell situation, which is the title of this thread and the subject of the post right before mine.

    i top-paged so i guess it wasn't as obvious as i expected.

I was being deliberately confused just pointing out the predictable state of mind of being an Angel fan right now.

i'm tired of talking about it and reading about it. i wish something would get done just so we can move on.

Are you talking about signing Snell, or resolving the stadium issue, or Arte selling the team, or the broadcast contract situation, or the health of Rendon and Trout, or Minasian’s contract, or finding out if Jo Adell is a player or a bust, or if Schanuel can drive the ball at the major league level, or if there will be shrinkflation in the dippin dots servings this year?

  12. The social event shindig on Saturday was something I really wanted to go to but luck of the calendar just didn’t go my way.  I am hosting a family event next weekend for a wedding.

There is no way I am getting away with, “Sorry honey I am going to miss the family event and go drink beer with people I technically have never actually met.”

I am sorry to miss a good opportunity to meet people face-to-face.

    Hopefully next year.
