  1. Gary Lucas is as much of a dog as anybody else in 1986. He had one guy to get and he plunks Rich Gedman. Then he gets to leave the mound and be forgotten and off the hook in everybody’s memories.
  2. I guess you missed when I said not to take the 100 win threshold literally.
  3. I wonder if they can just go ahead and do the 2025 surgery at the same time.
  4. My point was about the mindset of the ownership and front office going forward (stop planning on being a contender by getting an 8 WAR season out of Trout). You seem to be talking about what would have to happen with the current group of players to be a 100 win team. Those are two different conversations. And don’t take “100 wins” literally. I just think this should be an elite franchise with goals of excellence, not just being competitive. And my wish is they would be wise enough to pursue that level of excellence without it being dependent on Trout carrying the load.
  5. No lineup yet? I would like an explanation from management but I expect the answer would be “we told you we had unfinished business. This is it.”
  6. We all know the problem. I think it’s more than fine to talk about the problem honestly, and talk about what should happen without knowing how or when anything will actually be different. We have no control over “how.” All we have is observation and opinion.
  7. I totally understand the point. But everything is easier said than done. This team made this bed. They need to deal with it head on and stop using the results of their own previously chosen strategy as an excuse for not being functional going forward.
  8. The Angels need to have a plan to compete that doesn’t rely on “if Trout stays healthy and plays like Mike Trout.” Sure we would like to see him healthy and playing well, but it can’t be central to the plan. I buy lottery tickets sometimes for the possible longshot of the windfall upside, but buying lottery tickets isn’t my plan to be financially secure. The team needs to be committed to building a roster that that could win 100 games with no games played by Trout.
  9. What if we don’t play that game?
  10. There are always people who are turned off by Dombrowski, saying he ruins teams or that he makes stupid moves or whatever. The reality is he has taken four different teams to the WS and won two WS. If you want to get to the WS and have a chance to win, it’s pretty hard to argue with his results. I would venture to say if Dombrowski ran the Angels for this last disastrous ten years, it’s a damn good bet the team would have been in the postseason multiple times, and there is little chance the team would be left worse off than it is now.
  11. And just to be clear, I love Hunter. What a great dude with the right vibes and a leader and all that. But what happens is fans fall in love with a player and then they almost insatiably want somehow to plug back into those feelings for another round of love fest. The player is too old to play now, so they just decide the player should be put into some other role. “Bring back Torii!” Obviously some past players can absolutely be the best hire into other roles. But that really should happen when the past player has built a post-playing resume for the specific job being discussed, rather than their leading qualification being “It’s Torii!” Torii in a coaching role, or special assistant (to get the right experience), or in some other PR role, an announcing gig. . . Sure, yeah, all day. As the next GM? Please no. I don’t want a move based on name recognition. I want a proven, savvy, bad ass GM that we know can step in and run this team the right way, not a dude I like that I hope can do it because he is one of my favorites from the past. Can Torii someday be a good GM? I don’t know, maybe? But his name recognition should really only be a tiebreaker in a hire, not the reason he is a candidate in the first place.
  12. I don’t want any projects. I would prefer proven performers. If Moreno being the owner prevents the Angels from hiring someone with a real proven record (or the correct pedigree of front office experience), then I don’t really want to be distracted with the idea of hiring a past player that everybody likes as a consolation prize.
  13. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I am not “trying to move Adell to 1B.” I think he is just fine in the OF. I was simply commenting on the idea that it is unrealistic for players to change positions, especially when people are talking about a super athletic young guy and moving to THE one position that has often historically absorbed guys getting less athletic who struggle at other positions. I personally want Adell in the OF every game and Schanuel at 1B every game.
  14. I misread what you wrote. I stand corrected. No I am not looking to insult people. But it happens. I guess you can judge me and say I make my own bed.
  15. No I’d never said I couldn’t think of any. Never happened. I have a long standing position of not doing google searches to satisfy somebody else’s interest in “finding proof.” Plus, somebody else had already posted a long list of people changing positions. And finally, Taylor is gonna get addressed a certain way sometimes because he has a demonstrated history of being a certain way. Everybody makes their own bed.
  16. I am perfectly comfortable if you choose lazy and think the responsibility falls on me. That’s kinda the liberal way anyway, so no shocker there.
