Other than the no hitter, which was obviously very special….. Rendon hitting that HR as a lefty, 1st as a switch hitter.  was out of this world. And Trout had two HR. Pretty cool

The lefty Diaz has a locker. Looks like I was correct.
Honestly, when he didn't start for Salt Lake last night, and Valdez who was supposed to start tonight for them did, then you kind of knew this was the move.
He's 25, did 5 seasons in the Red Sox system with decent results, came to us in a minor league free agent signing in 2021.
Diaz did ok in 2021, starting in AA, with 13 games and a 3.98 ERA, then a 4.11 ERA in 3 starts for SLC. Then he pitched in three games for the Angels in the seasons last two weeks. He threw 50 pitches in parts of two innings 9-17-21 against Oakland, lasting 1.2 innings.... and then a 7 inning gem in relief against Seattle on 9-25 after they used an opener (Barria). Then he threw 89 pitches on 10-2, also against the Mariners, giving up 3 runs in 4.1 innings. Decent start to his major league career.
In 4 starts for the Bees this year, he has a sparkling 1.96 ERA in 23 innings. 12 hits, 10 walks for a 0.957 WHIP.
    Lets see how he does.

If it was a guy on the 26, they'd have announced it by now.
Barria or Rosenberg may start in sort of a BP game, as neither probably go more than 3/4 innings, but they have played 14 games straight, and have 6 more before a day off, but even after that day off, they need 7 starters in 6 days.
    They're calling someone up.

Hubs got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Suarez optioned, Duffy placed on Covid IL, Rosenberg and Mayfield recalled
Next Friday night, the 6th, it will be Suarez’s turn in the rotation. They’re home vs. Washington. They do have a day off on the 12th when his turn would come up again, but have a double header that Saturday the 14th. So I’d imagine Barria or Rosenberg gets the start both on the 6th and then the 13th…or 14th in one of the DH games. They could do a BP game again but I doubt they’d do it before a DH or as one of the DH games in Oakland. They’ll need a 6th starter again on the 17th but could conceivably skip it the next turn as they have two days off surrounding a home series against Oakland. But they’ll need it again the following series.
Suarez would be eligible for that start on the 17th to come back up and I believe Canning is also eligible to come off the 60-Day DL then if he’s ready. He was placed on it on the 16th of March.

They're 13-7. Best record in the AL. Yesterday evening, likely, these rankings were written, and they also had the best record in the AL. Yes they have 2 losses to the Orioles last weekend, but the games were close and the Orioles offense isn't the problem.
The #1 Dodgers had just lost 2 straight games to the Diamondbacks, but nbd... I sort of understand why they're ranked first, with series wins over the Braves, Padres, Reds, and Twins, but with series losses to the Diamondbacks and Rockies? But ok.
The #2 Giants are 13-6, Having also swept the Guardians, Nationals...and Series wins over the Brewers (1 game), Marlins, Padres, and splitting with the A's. They lost their 4 game series to the Mets, but...Still an impressive record, even if they haven't won a series against anyone who is any good except the Padres.
The #3 Blue Jays are third here, Having just won series against the slumping Astros and Red Sox, along with earlier series wins against the Red Sox, Athletics, Rangers, and split against the Yankees.
The #4 Mets are the darling of the East coast, and haven't lost a series all year, having beaten the Giants and Cardinals, plus the Nationals, Diamondbacks, and Phillies. they're ranked 4th, but probably should occupy the first spot on this list.
#5 Yankees up next, opened with a 2-1 series against the Red Sox, then that Split in a four game against the Bleu Jays. Then they lost a series against the Orioles, took a 2-3 against the Tigers, and then won six straight against the Guardians and Orioles.

So, all of these teams have 6 or 7 losses, like the Angels do, and all have a few bad losses each, except the Mets. The Angels should be right here in this group, having won 4 straight (when this was published, now 5) and 8 of their last 11.
But explain to me why the Rays are ranked 6th, with a 10-8 record, and the second place Mariners (11-7) are ranked 7th. Cardinals are 8th, ok...fine.. but the Astros and Braves are 11th and 12th, with losing records, and then the Angels?

This doesn't even take into account the Angels lead the league in literally nearly every category both pitching and hitting. And they've beaten up on the Guardians, too, but so have a lot of these teams. They've also beaten the Rangers, Marlins, and have a 3-4 record against the Astros, who they clearly think highly of. The only bad losses are the two to the Orioles...

Ohtani getting the next day off (or previous day off) after he starts I think is the right course of action.
I would tend towards the day after.
If the rotation order holds, which it will undoubtedly not, he'll have probably 3-4 scheduled days off the rest of the first half. That's fine by me.

Castrovince: All we've done for the last decade is compare other players to Mike Trout. And the person we're comparing him to changes all the time.
Feinsand: Great point, Castro. When the annual exercise is “Has (fill in the blank) overtaken Mike Trout as the game’s best player?” it probably means that Trout is still the best player.

This is what Angels fans have known since Trout was a rookie.
