Agree to disagree.

If that's your hope, I think you're setting yourself up for even greater disappointment, unfortunately.

As far as Ohtani goes -- I've been saying for long before this season started that the only way he sticks around is if he really likes it here, and the team starts winning. He's already had to make the decision to leave a place dear to his heart and coaches he was fond of once. He doesn't have the same ties to the org that Trout does.
I don't know how feels about the Angels, but I know the Angels haven't given him any reason to stay and I'm pretty sure his biggest fans would still be his fans regardless of where he plays.

I don't think signing a young manager to a three year deal is going to make any potential buyer or player think -- OMG!!! Look at that stability!! -- not after churning through three managers in four years. If anything I'd read it as - "oh man, they are just throwing shit at the wall."

What @Swordsman78 fails to realize is a big reason the team is playing better or winning more is because Nevin has been a puppet and a data guy more so than Maddon. You are like AO on a bender with your Nevin posts.

Maybe ownership is trying to lock everything down so that it's clear what is being sold. To me this should be a hopeful sign that a sale is imminent.

For future reference
Next season when someone makes another thread asking when they knew the season was over…
Today.
Extending Nevin says they’re punting on next year and not expecting a sale to go through any time soon.

This move cost us Ohtani.
This will go down as the dumbest decision in recent Angels history.

Hubs reacted to ten ocho recon scout in Ohtani or Judge as MVP?
Was actually thinking about this last night. That his numbers under WAR suffer a bit because he's a DH. Then I wondered (no idea) what his offensive WAR would be if he was viewed as a pitcher instead.

He doesn't have to be an 8th inning guy to be awarded with a SD.
Pitchers get a SD (shutdown) anytime they help their team chances to win by 6% so basically, 0.06 WPA. Conversely they are awarded a MD (meltdown) if their performance hurt his teams chances to win by 6% or -0.06 WPA. So, the main reason his SD total is where it is is because his WPA is in the negatives, also why he's just outside of the top 20 for MDs (Meldowns).
Loup has been bad, today was another perfect example. Signing him was a bad move because the dude is essentially a specialist at a time when the 3 batter rule is in place. None of this is to say he can't be better, because he's obviously done it before but it was a bad move at hello.

Agreed, but I think SD% is heavily affected by poor usage. He's not an 8th inning guy, he's a guy that should be coming in to face lefties and left handed centered lineups.
Bringing him in with a runner on base is also dumb, he's just not good at holding runners.

My Track record on relevant takes over post is dismal at best?
F*CK Right off. I've been posting here for almost 20 years and yes I use obscenities cuz you pissed me off. You're a troll, call out legit long time posters and then give me crap about obscenities? My god man you have quickly managed to annoy every single long term poster with your know it all attitude, which is less reliant on facts than on opinions, but basically I'm getting you banned.
Good bye troll!

His FIP isn't as bad as his ERA. He was so good last year, mainly because people just weren't scoring when they got on base. His WHIP was lower, at 0.935 versus this seasons 1.299...
He allowed 9 runs (6 ER) last year on 37 hits and 16 walks in 56.1 IP in 65 Games.
He has allowed 36 runs (23 ER) this year on 48 hits and 20 walks in 52 IP over 58 games. Is his poor 0-5 record due to the Angels terrible defense? 13 Unearned runs? Wow.

Let’s let that die ok? I hadn’t swung a bat in 15 years at that point and I obviously wasn’t very good.

Loup and Tepera actually have been mediocre, not horrific. They need to be moved down in the pecking order, and hopefully they regain their swagger next year. Both these guys were good in 2021, so it could be coaching, it could be that since the offensive production has been so low, they have been pitching without any margin for error and have been far from perfect.
I expect both back next year, but not as the designated late inning guys. Quijada, Ortega, Barria and Herget are all likely back and will be used in similar roles.
That's 6 guys in a 8 man pen. They can use Ortega or Quijada as the closer, or they can promote Bachman or hope Rodriguez can take the role.
I think they may sign a pitcher, but maybe just Bradley comes back.

This is likely, as is Bachman. The best case scenario for these guys are that they are healthy, stay healthy and occupy the 5th and 6th spot in the rotation expertly.
But as a closer, either could get some innings and build up his strength again. Bachman obviously can be in the majors all year, and honestly so could C-Rod.

Maybe you should take a season long hiatus then. Call it a sabbatical.

As opposed to your elite level intelligence? GFY troll.
My opinions are just that. No need for insults but you’ve been a dick to everyone since you started posting. No one likes you. At least angelsfan1961 is a grumpy old man, you’re just a prick.
Nevin is doing a horrible job in my opinion, and in my opinion, players are slumping, they’re not being coached well, and not being put in places to succeed. That means that guys hitting .160 who hit .280 last year are doing poorly because of the manager and because of the front office..
But you don’t care if my opinion is good or bad, you’re just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. Again, GFY.
