I know a lot of you want Santiago and Shoemaker to continue to pitch well, so we can trade them at the deadline. I on the other hand would rather keep them, if they have truly turned the corner. Good pitching is hard to find and expensive to sign, when you find them.
Keeping Shoemaker (the good Shoemaker) and the improved Santiago, of this July to go with the rebuilt Skaggs, and Tropeano would give us a solid core of 4 starting pitchers. We can add Nate Smith as a #5 starter and we may be a contender again next season.
If you need to trade players, we have Escobar who is older and having a good year with the bat if not with the glove. Cowart can play 3b next year.
If Cowart isn't given his chance soon, he may be wasted in the minors until it's too late for him.
