It is what it is. I'm fine with them using their platform to speak out however they feel.
What I don't like is the mob mentality from the left that if you don't 100% believe politics and sports should aways be intertwined that you are then "privileged" or a "racist".
I think having sports as an outlet from the other harder parts of life is something we should again strive for hopefully in the near future.

Signing Upton was a good move at the time, possibly even a very good move. Nobody could have predicted how sharply Upton would decline.
No one predicted this sharp of a decline but there were several people who didn't like giving a 30+ year old declining defender that kind of money and for 5 seasons.
At a certain point you have to place accountability on the GM for the moves that work out. Just like you give him credit for the moves that worked (Simmons, Bundy, Ohtani, Trout extension, Rendon).
I'm not an Eppler hater but this is just common sense

I give zero shits about any rivalry with the Dodgers since I live in Texas, so to me, sure help them all day if it means we get back a package that helps us as much if not more than Bundy will in 2021.
But that’s the key. Will they pay it? I’d argue that if we got, I dunno, Chris Taylor or Kike Hernandez, Josiah Gray or Tony Gonsolin, and Caleb Ferguson back for Bundy and La Stella, I would think it at least stands a decent enough chance of helping us more in ‘21 than Bundy himself would.
I like the way you're thinking but think that package for Bundy and La Stella seems extremely optimistic. Why wouldn't the dodgers just keep what they have?

Besides Upton which contracts did he agree to?
That’s about it(besides Trout and Rendon)
but when Upton makes 24 million and Ryu is making 20 million...you’re never gonna convince me that was solid management by Billy
even without the benefit of hindsight pitching has always been our biggest downfall

I don’t blame Dipoto for Upton signing. However I can blame him for the black hole we had in LF before Eppler arrived.
I’m just saying Eppler was only under a strict budget for pitching this offseason due to the contracts he previously agreed to. It wasn’t just Rendon.
it’s also Pujols, which definitely isn’t his fault

He was thinking Rendon.
And Upton
cant blame Dipoto for that one

Signing either Ryu or Kuechel seemed like a no brainer. Not sure what Eppler was thinking

With the expanded playoffs, there will potentially be more buyers. I agree the returns will be low, but it’s not going to be nothing.
the Angels should certainly still get what they can for almost anyone that is tradeable. We need to restock the upper minors with as many arms as possible.

They have 120 million committed to 4 position players next year
2 of those players are great and 2 of them are really bad.

Marsh came in the same draft as Thaiss.
Adell and Canning both came from 2017 and you cant call them a bust yet.
Jordyn Afams and Jeremiah Jackson in 2018.
Outside of Thaiss they have become good prospects.
I agree with you. I was just answering your question. Thaiss is a miss barring something crazy happening
the jury is still out on the rest.
the issue for Eppler is that he hasn’t done a good enough job with his acquisitions to be here if his draft picks pan out
hes on the way out

Who has Eppler drafted that was a bust yet?
Thaiss was certainly not a good selection so far. 25 years old and hasn’t done anything. The jury is still out on most of the players Eppler drafted. But he traded Will Wilson just to get rid of Cozart
-
They have no chance of turning this around so you might as well get the #1 overall.
Even the announcers are turning on the team. They're usually 2 of the biggest homers

Thank God these games are only 7 innings

I'm not sure Fletcher is much worse, if at all, than Simmons right now defensively at SS.

La Stella is a terrible 2nd baseman. Wow

To our defense Yelich was coming off of a .282 batting average season with 18 homer runs. He was basically a poor mans Michael Brantley type. Then he went to the Brewers and blew up. So find a guy that is a 3 WAR player that is 26 and ask yourself if you would trade Adell for him. Someone like Verdugo? He’s actually younger. Would you trade Adell for Verdugo if he was 26.
I understand that. I'm on your side. I'm simply stating that Yelich (even at his Miami level of production -- which was actually about 4 WAR per season the 3 years prior to being traded) would have been a much better return for Adell than a 20 year old SS prospect that was ranked as about the 35th best prospect in the game.
If I'm trading Adell I better be getting a guaranteed quality major league player under the age of 27 that is under club control for at least 4 years. Yelich fit that bill. I was personally against it at the time also though
In other words, I am not trading him right now. Certainly not selling low right now for some other prospect that was ranked by all the pundits as being worse 5 months ago
-
You guys all sure turned on Adell remarkably quickly. Almost everyone was against trading him for 5 years of Yellich at a ridiculously cheap price. And now want him traded for another prospect(Groshans?) that was lower ranked 4 months ago? Seems absurd to me to change your mind that radically based on 20 ballgames

You didn't read my post.
I doubt something like this gets done, but an org lacking OF prospects that has a plethora of SP and SS prospects that wants to compete this season may pull the trigger on this.
It may not be Bichette, but they have the depth to make something like this work.
No, I did read the post. I wasn't insinuating we would be getting Bichette back. That's absurd. I was simply wondering why the Jays would even want Simmons at all.

Guys, we aren't getting any top-100 prospects from the Jays lol
Of course they aren't. But you might as well get what you can. Get the best AA reliever the Jays are willing to give up and call it a day. I don't see Simmons being re-signed at this point anyway. The Angels just can't afford to commit more money to a dude over 30 that's not a pitcher.
-
Someone fill me in here.
Why would the Blue Jays want Simmons when they have Bichette?
Bichette is better than Simmons already and is 22 years old. I don't get it
-
They’re completely out of the race now. Might as well go 20-40 overall and get a top 3 pick. Need to go 11-19 the rest of the way or worse. Very doable for this group
-
I do worry about his confidence a little bit. I don’t like the fact that he botched a ball over the fence Canseco style and has dropped easy fly balls. I don’t like the fact that he’s being blown away by fastballs down the middle.
Sure, he needs to play and get reps but at a certain point there has to be diminishing returns to that if he isn’t ready for it mentally or physically
You don’t want him to start to overthink things. It’s only going to lead to more problems.
We obviously have to be patient but I’m definitely in the ‘slightly concerned’ group of fans. This level of sucktitude from a prospect is not something we’ve really seen since Brandon Wood. And it’s not his fault but It’s a little scary

I'm personally white and will not stop watching. I like sports too much to do something like that.
I'm not agitated at the players, I'm irritated at the interpretation of the message that many of the BLM mob has about this. They think it's an excuse to belittle, shame, and antagonize people that just want to watch their sports again in peace some day. A person like Jemelle Hill is the leader of this disgusting behavior.
I'll never stand behind that
