ITA with this and what Stradling said - he seems as though he's the sort of pitcher who is acutely aware of what he's doing out there, and has a lot of pride. It's a lot easier for me to imagine him retiring and returning to the Angels in a support or coaching role than it is to imagine that he will be content to struggle along for the remainder of his contract when he knows he's not getting the job done.
Having said that, it's hard to watch him out there right now. I'd like to think he might be able to sort things out but it's not necessarily going to happen.

I can't think of a RHP who threw in the low to mid 80's and was successful. He certainly can't live up in the zone any more. It is sad but Weaver seems like a guy who could walk away from the game with no regrets.

While I agree that a 'save' in and of itself is a pretty meaningless stat, there is something to be said about the ability to be the last guy out of the pen and work without a net. 
 
Everyone in our pen works without backup except Street and the bottom line is that he got the job done.  He didn't have good stuff yet we still won the game.  Last year, that was a loss.  
 
It means something to be a closer, and it means something to get the final out.  

Considering I've lived on four continents, not particularly. But SoCal is a hell of a lot nicer than Texas in all ways.

The fact that someone would voluntarily want to live or work in Texas over Southern California baffles me, unless they're in Austin, but different strokes for different folks.

For a great book on writing, if you haven't checked it out already get Stephen King's "On Writing."  He has great advice about editing and "killing your darlings."  Of course, he also recognizes that he needs to follow his own advice more often.

In all seriousness, is there a way to remove the numbers and letters and get something else added there instead? Those numbers are sewn on, not printed. Those jerseys are $$$ and the Angels have already wasted enough money on Hamilton. No need to waste Angel fans' money along with that.

I wonder if one contacted the Angels management they'd actually consider exchanging it, or if they could pull the numbers off and add new ones to the jersey at the team store. Considering how fully they've tried to excise all mentions of Hamilton from the stadium they'd probably prefer not to have fans walking around with his jersey anyhow.

First of all, Josh had a no trade clause so the only team we could have conceivably traded him to is Texas.  Which we did.
 
Secondly, he relapsed and regardless of how it leaked, it was going to leak by someone at some point.  Even if it didn't leak to the media, every other team would have known about it.  Hell, most of the teams probably knew before the league office did.  
 
So, from the second it was known, he was a multiple offense recovering addict who had just relapsed. He was owed 90 million dollar over the next three years,  and was recovering from surgery, he had significantly under performed in his last two seasons, and his personal life is a wreck.  Oh, and the no trade clause. 
 
Yah, I am sure if the halos had thrown him a little more support, teams would have been lining up.

Well...in thinking about this more, yes, I can see where everyone is coming from.
 
And what this author says in the last paragraph or so? Okay, that perhaps could have been expressed better. Or not at all. I would never wish harm on a person and I sincerely hope that Hamilton never comes to a bad end due to his drug habit. However...he's right that the stakes are high for any addict.

Our decision to back Charlie Sheen as Josh's accountability partner seems to have been a mistake in hindsight.

So, Josh gets a 2nd shot with the Rangers.  I wonder if it's Jack Daniels...
