Yes sir. I just turned the game on when Freese had the 'non-play' no throw to second on the grounder to third so I missed Butera's errant throw that put the guy on first in the first place.

and just because we're talking scoring here --  let's say Butera didn't make a bad throw but just dropped the third strike and/or it was ruled a passed ball (not wild pitch) and the batter/ runner beats (let's say for sake of argument --- a perfect throw)......would that change the earned run ruling on that --

no E-2 on the throw just a dropped third strike PB.......(with two outs)......I assume pitcher would NOT be charged with an earned run after that -- but perhaps.

    LF  Joyce
    3B  Freese

The tie breaker for me is that Trumbo netted two almost major league ready and team controlled pitchers, for Trumbo a barely 1 WAR player who's only skill is that he can hit the baseball very far, with subpar OBP and avg.  Sure Heaney might be who we expect him to be, but Kendrick was a 3-4 WAR player at a very reasonable contract with 1 year left.

I was watching highlights of the Giants vs Nats. Man, the intensity within the players is crazy. Its like that all around the playoffs, cant see ONE player on the Angels showing this intensity, no leadership whatsoever.

Is it really? Because a full season of play puts him as the easiest guy to strikeout in the American League. And as someone mentioned earlier, his post asb numbers arent so hot either.

Luck, contracts, injuries, etc. We are in first place and just swept the A's(with the rotation that was supposed to win them the world series). Honestly, it's crazy how things work out. We paid Pujols and Hamilton for exactly this scenario: to be first place in baseball and the favorites for the world series. Sure, this came a couple years later, and we still are not receiving the production we expected from them, but we had the emergence of Trout, G.Rich, Calhoun, Shoemaker, Street, Santiago, and even Cowgill, Cron, Navarro, and the rest of our bullpen stepping it up when they have been needed to play their role. Basically... its been a team effort. It wasn't Hamilton and Pujols who carried this team into best in the majors, hell it wasn't even trout. It has been a team effort, and that's what's best about this.

We have to be the best in our division first to be the best in baseball. And I agree about Felix and richards, but felix has more mlb experience in general.

I wonder where Calhoon's stats would be if he had never been injured which took 6 weeks away, plus was the cause for the platoon. Maybe 17-19 hrs? I think hes definately the best hitter this season.
As for player, i think we can all agree Richards. But when it comes to position players, its a tough call..ill take calhoun though.

This is funny, though I would share.

As we all know, CJ has been rather subpar his 5 starts or so.  After his most recent start, he says in his post-game interview he is physically fine.

    Today, he tweeted this: https://twitter.com/str8edgeracer/status/488467227432075265

    Note the hashtag #gettingbetterfast

To me, that sounds like he really IS fine and thinks he shouldn't be on the DL.

I then replied with this: #PhantomDLstint (as an inside joke frequently used here)

santini1 reacted to ELEVEN in Kershaw or Trout?
Off topic a bit, but when I was house shopping 10 years ago, one of the things that sold me was being between Rancho and San Berdoo so I could be a bike ride from both the Quakes and 66ers ballparks. I have had the pleasure of watching Trout with the Quakes (when they were the Angels affiliate) and both Felix (Mariners) and Kershaw (dodgers) with the 66ers previuos incarnations, along with many many others.
The thing about Felix is he used to throw a filthy slider in addition to the rest of his arsenal. The club actually made him stop throwing it in fear he would injure his arm. IMHO it was his best pitch at that time, and I have to wonder how much more dominant he would be today with it.
Think Frankie Rodriguez's but even nastier. I've never seen one like it.
Those 3 were obvioulsy the best prospects I've ever seen, and it was apparent then too.

Good call on the era+. Thats a pretty good arguement. 5th all time is pretty impressive, but I would think because he hasnt hit the downside of his career yet that type of stat will change over time

No, I said sans those two (not those two). But the latrine, att and petco are all. Ig time pitcher parks.
The dogs are the class of the division...the rox have some bats but on the road are a different story...after that who? The giants have a weak offense, arizona is a shell of itslef and the pads are horrible (offense wise). When the giants were winning a few years ago, the dodger offense was horrible, and the other teams were as they are today.
Im not taking anything away from kershaw. I hate the dodgers but love him. But pitching where hes been the last few years has benefitted him, as its benefitted the giants staff as well.

That is tough.  Based on what they have done already, both could be one of the best to ever play.  Kershaw has done it for much longer though so I will go with Kershaw, for now.  Both are the best at what they do.  I don't understand how Kershaw is arguably the best.  Who comes close?  He isn't even in his prime yet and he already has 6 1/2 years of stats that give him a 2.55 ERA, a half point below the next qualified starter.  He has every qualified starter beat in ERA, FIP, and ERA+ by a decent margin.  I would rather have Trout then Kershaw because he is an every day player, but I think at this point its safer to say Kershaw has been better at his trade then Trout has (as ridiculous as that sounds).

This. It is like comparing a quarterback and a running back - they fulfill two different roles.

That said, we can compare relative dominance. Check out Trout's fWAR over the last three years:

    25.7 Trout
    18.6 McCutchen
    17.9 Cabrera
    16.8 Cano
    14.8 Wright

Now compare Kershaw's RAR-WAR over the same span:
    19.5 Kershaw
    15.4 Hernandez
    15.1 Sale
    13.3 Darvish
    12.9 Scherzer

Trout has been 38.2% better than the next best player, while Kershaw has been 26.6% better. Given all of the variations in statistics, I think it is pretty close: both are clearly the best at what they do, with Trout getting the edge.

I often stop and think about what it means to have Mike Trout in Anaheim. I'm dead serious.  We are really lucky to get to watch this guy play for our favorite team night in and night out.  I try very hard not to take it for granted that he's here doing incredible things.  I don't understand why the stadium isn't sold out every night and why people are flocking to the stadium to see a once-in-a-lifetime talent like Trout.  He's doing things that no one else has ever done and a lot of us take it for granted.  I think about the fans who got to watch Willie Mays day in and day out or Mickey Mantle and think - we have that same privilege right now. Parents should be taking their sons and daughters to see Mike Trout because his time in the MLB will go fast. Think about some of the great athletes who you wish you had gone to see more of when they were here.
