Someone posted this earlier in a thread, but man the West is crazy good at 3rd base. You could make the argument that we got Rendon and we still have the 3rd best 3rd baseman in the division. I don't say that to devalue him or his impact, just to point out how crazy good our division is at the hot corner.
No way he's 3.

If he ends up getting Price & Ryu right he'll be 5 for 5. With Price and Ryu being most impressive since this was a couple of days ago.

launching MLB the Show...
Who would we have to package with Simmons to get Lindor + Kluber? Marsh? Or more than just those 2?
-
I suspect LaStella will be packaged up and sent away for some pitching now? I really want to keep Fletcher. LaStella is in the last year of his deal if I recall.

Good guys finish (2nd to) last.

He’s Arte.
-
Fuck yes. Who needs pitching if you can score 10 per game
-
Well this is a good plan B

Let’s say the Angels offered him $350 and the Yanks offered him $280. You really think he’d still go to the Yankees? That’s insane.
Cole couldn’t win 18 games in a season, really?
You think we'd go 0-18 in those games with a pitcher other than him?

If we got Cole, Arte would have gotten nothing else. Now he has to get Rendon and 2 pitchers. This will make us a much more rounded team. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.
We are having trouble getting 1 person to sign here let alone 3.

3.90 ERA and >200 IP last year. Leagues better than anything we had last year.

The thing that worries me most about losing out is now we might empty the farm a bit to land some pitching.

Yes I wanted him but I'm also not going to call the guy all sorts of names or anything. You can't fault a guy for accepting a deal to be the highest paid pitcher ever and play for his childhood team. The guy is really living the dream. He may have gone for the most money, but he also went to the team he rooted for growing up. That's a huge factor for some people I'd say. And no one here can deny the Yankees are in a much, much (much) better position than us to win a few championships.
Side note: Did we ever find out what Jeff Fletcher was talking about with his eyes, pancakes, and bear emojis? Get bad info? Too many drinks? Unrelated?

I have this weird feeling we will have a rollercoaster ride pretty soon. Yankees sign Cole (board goes crazy) and the Angels sign Rendon (board goes crazy - who is going to pitch?)
-
They should just announce the Angels signed Cole and Rendon at the same time. Two birds and all that jazz.

We all know that signing Cole and Rendon and whoever else isn't a guarantee at all. What it is - is showing us his commitment to winning. Maybe he doesn't get his ring, but it won't be for a lack of trying and that's all any fan base can ask for. Stuff happens. Players fail. Bad luck hits the fan every now and then. We are freakin' lucky to have Arte as the owner of our favorite team. Anyone who questions his commitment to winning is an idiot.
People around here talk like Arte is Jeter or something. We have a pretty awesome owner.

Sign Cole, sign Rendon, sign Maldonado, trade for SP = win.
-
Those worried about the latter years of the contract need to remember if we can win now, then the team will be raking in the cash and be able to spend more potentially in the future, that came about from actually winning something.

How / where in the world is Stassi projected to outperform Contreras in 2020? Are they basing it solely on pitch framing or something? The guy can't hit. His career BA is at the Mendoza line.

MLB Network Panels: What are the Angels doing? They have no pitching!

Do they think the season starts tomorrow? If this is our team on April 1st then they have some room to talk.
