Technology can overcome just about any method of a catcher and pitcher trying to communicate so I'm not sure there's an easy answer here.

We started like 20 guys last season. Eppler is just picking up warm bodies who can start if needed rather than calling up young guys who aren't ready to start 10+ games each. I am sure he is still trying to land a regular, once every 5 starter.

I think Arte thought we could get both Cole and Rendon. Freeing up the Cozart money made this possible (I think?). But if we had done that we'd have most likely been done in FA and had to make really small moves or trades.

There's not a team in the league who wouldn't exchange a World Series title and all the $ and accolades that go with it in exchange for a $5M fine and some lost draft picks. They'll find another GM and Manager just fine. The world series title literally made them 20x or more than what they were fined.

Sure it's not ideal to not land a big name SP but we landed the top position player free agent, are getting our own potential ace back (even if on an innings limit), signed 2 SP who would have both been our best pitchers last year, signed one of the best managers in the game, who brought along an awesome pitching coach, who will/should help our young guys out in taking a step forward (canning, suarez, sandoval, barria even). Oh and Upton is healthy so I am hoping for a bounce back year. And just having Rendon in the lineup to protect Trout is huge and overlooked a bit. Trout could put up unheard of numbers.

What about trading Adell straight up for one of the top pitching prospects? Is Adell more of a sure thing than the top couple pitching prospects? We have an excess of OF prospects. I assume most are against it.

Is Stassi's % of runners thrown out close to Maldonados? I know Maldonado has a gun and threw a ton of guys out.

This has to be based on 100% defense and/or pitch framing. The dude has a career .200 average. He couldn't hit the side of a barn last year and looked completely lost at the plate.
