On the way home I was listening to one of the stations that plays older music (100.3, 101.1 or 95.5) and one of the dj's noted that Nicks' song Edge of 17 came from a discussion she had with Tom Petty's first wife.  She was talking to her about meeting Tom at the age of 17 and NIcks misheard it as her saying Edge of 17.  Random but seeing you mention Stevie Nicks made me think about it.  Hopefully those stations are still playing a lot of Tom Petty on the way home.      

Even if it wasn't for a convention I've seen individuals or couples roll in with two carts full of luggage that get delivered to their room.  I expect hotels in Vegas to basically have TSA style security as far as metal detectors and/or bag scanners.  It's going to hurt Vegas' bottom line when people can't just drop their bags off and start gambling/drinking/partying but unfortunately that's what it's come to.

It reminds me of the occupy wall street movement.  It started out grass roots with decent intentions but then it morphs into something else where others come along and use as a reason to riot, trash public property , steal and act like assholes in general.  In the end that just ends up pushing away middle of the road people who supported or at least weren't against them in the beginning.

Every year people think "this is the year teams don't overpay for FA" and every year that turns out to be wrong.  So many times over the years I've looked at the FA's that are out there in MLB/NFL/NBA and think teams won't overpay but they do because teams miss out on the first guy they want then overpay for option B, C or even D.  The 2018 FA class is loaded and if he were to opt out Upton could arguably be the top position player even though I think it's a bit of fool's gold since he's having a career year in what could be a contract year.  He's a good player no doubt I just think he's having the type of year that could land him more than he's worth even in MLB terms.  That said obviously I hope he hits the cover off the ball and the Angels make as much noise as possible this year in the playoffs.  .

I tend to agree with UndertheHalo.  Also correct me if I'm wrong as it's been years since I read the first 3 books but wasn't it discussed that Rhaeger was a reader and not a fighter early on but after reading about the prince that was promised prophecy he started training?  I thought it was insinuated that he did so as he believed he had a role to fulfill in the prophecy which would help mankind fight the darkness.  He left his best knights behind at the tower of joy when guys that skilled could have conceivably helped turn the tide at the battle of the trident so it seems he felt protecting his soon to be born child was more important.  Maybe the guise of kidnapping Lyanna was also better than professing his love for her considering his dad had insulted Tywin when he originally proposed Rhaegar marry Cersei and at that point the Lannisters were still supporters of the mad king.

He has a player opt out after this season and most are assuming that he'll use it to get more money and more years than his current contract.
As far as Upton goes I hope the Angels stay away.  He's a good player but I think he's overrated and isn't worth what he'll get. 

My biggest concern is who and what get to define what hate speech is.  To me that is as scary as the feds sending a warrant to the protest organization.

They can do and say whatever they want but pointing to Trump has very little to do with winning an election as 2016 showed.  Either side can say whatever they want and try to distance themselves from Trump as much as possible but it's going to come down to middle America and the battle ground states.  Maybe the newest group of voters lean more left center than right center and as Trump showed anything really is possible but I still can't imagine those voters would relate to someone like Harris.  The dems need to get away from a candidate that's anything like Hillary - someone average people don't relate to or can't even say "hell I'd at least have a beer with him/her."  
 

Kamala Harris who refused to seek the death penalty for a gang member who ambushed and killed a cop, didn't enforce laws preventing sex offenders from living near schools and supports sanctuary cities?  If the dems want to screw up the 2020 election like they did the 2016 they'll nominate her and watch middle America again be completely turned off by the party.  Obviously you can find dirt on anyone if you look hard enough but the fact that she's a D from CA means her winning the needed battle ground states is almost impossible from the get go.
