  1. I'm pretty sure if Manning wanted to come back assuming he's healthy they'd take him back and he'd be starting in 2015. Word is that Elway and Fox weren't getting along for a while (same situation as San Fran just not public) so parting ways with Fox and telling the rest of the staff they're free to look elsewhere seems to be more of a statement about the Elway/Fox relationship than wanting to move on from Manning. As far as using a 2nd round pick on Osweiler call me a skeptic but I don't think that means they view him as Aaron Rodgers ready to displace Favre who GB was ready to move on from. Quite a few teams draft QB's in rounds 2-4 for for depth as NE has drafted 2 QB's in the last 4 years from rounds 2 and 3 which isn't a testament to their skill or ability to replace Brady.
  2. Any time you go from an elite QB to an unproven commodity like Osweiler while letting your entire coaching staff go you're doing some type of rebuilding. It may not be a 5-10 year plan where you pray for a top QB in the draft but it's generally a few years until you hope to be better than a fringe playoff team. They still have a skilled roster but the top teams generally have top 10-15 QB's which isn't something they will have if Manning is gone. Maybe retooling is a better word.
  3. When they signed Manning I thought the window was 2-3 years. They got about 2.75 years before he got injured and while I wish they won it all it was a fun 3 years. Rebuilding sucks but at the same time it's a necessary evil and it's just something new to look forward to.
  4. Manning doesn't need the money and that aside even if he does play next year I don't see him in Buffalo. They play outside, are in the AFC East, don't have that good of an offense and just hired a defensive minded coach who likes to run the ball.
  5. I'd imagine so with the entire coaching staff being let go. I could see them parting ways with guys who don't fit into their plans beyond a few years like Ware but I say that not knowing the exact details of his contract (think 3/30 with 20M guaranteed but not sure how guaranteed breaks down).
  6. Even if Manning is gone I imagine they intend to keep D. Thomas. As much as I like J. Thomas he's way too much of an injury concern and will have too high of a price tag to keep on a team that will be looking for a new QB. Without Manning they're definitely rebuilding as far as QB goes but I imagine the hope is to do that over the course of a few years and not a complete rebuild, especially considering the signings they made last year on defense.
  7. I was thinking about it last night when I realized Manning just finished his 3rd year in Denver (figured 2-3 years) and tend to agree. After last years schlacking in the super bowl my hopes weren't as high this year and once Manning started to struggle I didn't expect much of anything. I still think Joe Flacco owes Rahim Moore part of his signing bonus for that gift of blown coverage in the AFC divisional game against Baltimore.
  8. I know this won't be the popular sentiment but I think he should go in as an expo.
  9. I don't understand the John Fox talk as Del Rio is interviewing for HC jobs and is possibly on his way out. Unless Manning is retiring or wants Fox gone for some reason it makes no sense to change coaches this year. As far as the Manning injury given how many people on here pointed out something wasn't right with him it makes the most sense. Obviously at 38 he isn't going to get better with age but he fell off a cliff production wise for the last 5-6 weeks.
  10. As a Bronco fan I hope the report is true because that's a better explanation than him just going to shit over night as he ages. Before that game Manning was having a pretty damn good season so if it's something he can recover from I think he can still play at a high level. I understand why they would still march him out there but it was evident something wasn't right and it's sad to think Manning on one leg when he can't throw was a better option than Osweiler.
  11. Figured Denver had a 2-3 year window when they signed Manning. I'll be curious to see if anything comes out when he has his annual check up on his neck. Sucks to see them go out with a whimper but not surprising given how Manning has looked for the last month and a half. I really don't want to see Seattle or NE win it all but I don't see a hobbled Rodgers leading Green Bay to a win over Seattle in Seattle or the Colts beating NE.
  12. Manning has almost nothing on his throws. The only thing they've been able to do are short passes which arent getting it done.
  13. No idea how Manning didn't run on that third and five. He would have gone at least 10 yards and could have stepped out of bounds to avoid a hit. Denver now down 21-10 and their offense has looked horrible.
  14. The Cobb catch probably should have been reversed but it was still hard to tell even with that shot from behind. He had his hands under it but it looked like the nose touched the ground right as his hands got there. I think that's one of those whatever they called on the field the replays didn't show enough to reverse it. Bryant's catch was great until the ball hit the ground as he never had possession or made a football move. Good game.
  15. I don't disagree with you about some kind of path for a trade school around 10th/11th grade but the vague details about this so far have taxpayers paying an estimated 30+ billion a year for junior college. We already have K-12 schools which in some cases leave quite a bit to be desired while we have some high school graduates who aren't prepared for college. If they were talking about overhauling high school or even just implementing some kind of trade school path I'd be all for it but free JC for maintaining a 2.5 GPA isn't something I'm a fan of. If taxpayers foot the bill how many more people are going to go to JC when it really may not be for them?
  16. Thought I'd post this here since we were talking about the cost of college at one point: http://news.yahoo.com/obama-proposes-idea-two-free-years-community-college-012142866.html Requirements - attending school at least half-time and maintaining a 2.5 GPA while making steady progress towards completing programs. I'll wait for more to come out but so far this sounds like a terrible idea (2.5 GPA, really?) that's really just a political move because it has to pass a republican congress.
  17. My favorite when I worked at a grocery store 12+ years ago was the couple with multiple kids, on food stamps and/or WIC and they drove a brand new escalade.
  18. In the end it doesn't always quite work out to be as favorable as people think it will be from a tax perspective. Assuming you're married filing jointly the standard deduction for 2014 is $12,400. Obviously in SoCal between mortgage interest, property taxes and then because you itemize state income taxes, donations, etc. you'll end up with a larger itemized deduction than the standard deduction but you have to figure how much more you're paying each month owning instead of renting. You might reduce your taxable income by 35K (obviously could be more or less depending on your mortgage, property taxes, state taxes paid) instead of the $12,400 standard deduction but that's a $22,600 decrease on taxable income which then gets applied to your tax bracket which in the 25% bracket is $5,650 less you pay in federal income taxes.
  19. Rising college costs are an issue but the student loan crisis is a bit over exaggerated as the average student loan debt is just under 30K. I do agree that the bigger issue is kids being told they have to go to college when quite frankly some of them just don't belong there. I've got a cousin who tries her best but if it wasn't for her parents footing the bill and telling her she needs a degree she wouldn't be in school. She's in her late 20's, doesn't have her bachelors yet and my aunt and uncle mentioned that she's going for her masters. This is someone who barely got through high school and while some of it was due to a learning disability that she overcame she just doesn't have the aptitude or ability to do the type of case work necessary to get her masters. Anyways the original article doesn't really surprise me. I know of too many people who spend money on new phones, newer cars, go out to eat a lot, etc. yet they're one accident or mishap away from digging themselves into a financial hole they really won't be able to get out of. In the mean time they continue to plod along without saving for their future. It's not a matter of them not making enough money it's just that they don't prioritize their financial security. Sadly more and more people are living like that and by the time I retire they're going to represent a pretty good size group of voters.

  21. This is quite honestly depressing and while everyone knew he was fighting cancer I wasn't expecting this. Scott had been an ESPN mainstay for as long as I can remember and was one of the analysts I liked listening to. RIP and as others said f*** cancer.
  22. There's a ton of summer rentals in Newport that are on the beach or a block or two back. If the price difference is something you can afford Newport is much better than Huntington.
  23. It's like you guys are arguing who is the 20th most attractive chick that didn't get nominated to be prom queen.
