Issue with him is he may finally have a manger that will play him daily. He will be a great addition to your team. Very very fast you will be impressed. His hitting though is average.

Honestly, it won't be hard to surpass Jon Jays output at the plate.
The defensive improvement is what excites me, plus a little more speed on the bases.
Freese was a favorite of mine, but he is on borrowed time with those ankles. There are also rumors of other issues, but leu ours are just that, rumors.
If the back is better he should give you a boost in the 6-7-8 part of the lineup. His range has diminished, partly due to the back issues.
Again, the real problem is the rebuilt ankles.

In reality, both of the main pieces of this trade were likely to be platoon or bench guys on their former teams in 2014.

Both are injury prone.  Both have high upside.

They get a chance to start fresh in new enviornments.  I hope it works out for everyone.

It's not selling low.   Halos are getting a guy who plays 3B and hits for power, coming off a down year.   Borjous was basically blocked in Anaheim, a platoon player at best.   In STL, Freese was in the same boat and getting to pricey for our mid-market team.

PB has been on STL's radar for a while, for at least the last year.   No secret to those familiar with the STL front office.    I had a feeling they would find a way to bring him on board.

I think this works out for both sides, very little risk.  High upside.

    2012 version was an All-Star 3B.  Hitting .290 w/20HR.

He had a down year.   He can turn it around.

This is a trade that fills needs for both sides.

Cards get the defense upgrade they needed in CF.    Angels get a 3B who has been an All-Star and WS MVP.

Both guys are coming off down years, both are risks.  Both have high upside.

Who knows, maybe Salas will find his 2011 self in Anaheim.     Cards don't have the OF depth the Angels have.

With that said, if I was DiPoto, I would held out for a AA SP prospect.   But I think both teams fill some of their minor needs with this trade.   Cards still need a SS,  Angels still need a starting pitcher or two.    I don't think the Angels want to move Aybar, who would play in his place?

Freese was money in 2012, 20 homers, 290 avg and 370 obp, he was a solid defender too. His lousy season in 2013 is all anyone seems to want to look at though. If we get the good Freese not the bad Freese I really like this trade. Either way Bourjos was gonna end up in another OF platoon here in Anaheim. And he wasn't going to land us any kind of starter better than a 4. This trades not as bad as people are making it out to be.

For what its worth Angel's fans, I think David Freese has a good shot to turn it around this year.
He hit 20 HRs in 2012, so he has the potential to do that again if he can stay healthy.

He is a hometown hero for what he did in 2011 and I'm sad to see him go.

I am happy to see Borjous get a shot in St. Louis,  I was saying earlier this last summer that he looked like the kind of player the Cards would target.    He is definitely an upgrade over Jon Jay.

I hope Freese turns it around for you guys this year.    Really rooting for him, and Albert too.

    Salas sucks.

The last outfielder we traded to St Louis did pretty well for them......if I remember correctly.

I don't like the years but all in all its a pretty reasonable deal. Halos are paying $7.5 mill for Blanton's carcass, $8 million for Vargas sounds about right. Royals actually did pretty good.

Much better with the sound off, but the 2009 version doesn't even look like the same guy. There's only a few guys in the history of the game that could generate that bat speed. However, he made adjustments for his slower bat from June-August of 2012 and put up his usual numbers (.323, 21, 63 in 71 games). Hopefully, we get to see that guy play with two healthy wheels, but I agree, it's more than just the foot.

Even better, imagine if Hamilton does too.

The last 4 years have sucked, but it would be great if these guys could turn this team around.

The Angels are absolute morons for not offering that guy a qualifying offer and collecting their draft pick.

CardsFanVegas reacted to Angel Oracle in Kinsler or Andrus Might be Traded
Andrus' contract (8/$120 million) makes Aybar's (4/$36 million) look like an absolute steal, both in duration and amount.    Aybar's and Andrus' WARs, save for 2013, have been similar back to 2010.   Andrus isn't necessarily getting any better as he's reached his mid 20s.

Same with Kinsler (5/$75 million) vs. Kendrick (4/$33 million), as Kinsler has slumped the past 2 seasons (.750 OPS).

    That's a real head scratcher.

Jason is a fairly reliable #3 starter.   He's worth the 14.4 mil, assuming he accepts it.  Which he won't because he can get at least 4 years on the market.

Take the draft pick!   Its a no-brainer.
